Loved Phaneuf as a Flame. All the hate made it even better.

But I'm done with these re-acquiring attempts. I thought Cammy was the best ex Flame re-acquiring trade to date at the time but even that turned out to be stale. It's just never as good as the first time around. So how about we just allow that habit to die with the previous regime.

Fresh faces from now on.

I really don't think Phaneuf has changed much since leaving Calgary... no more than say, Bouwmeester has from 09 - now. He may as well wear a blindfold when he winds up a slapshot. Skating never was the same after that hip(?) injury. No hockey sense and still runs around in his own end. For the first time since the trade Toronto fans are turning on the guy and it's for the exact same reasons he soured on Flames fans.

No need to bring up the TMZ garbage anymore. The guy just shouldn't be used as a #1 defender and cap space or not we're not the right fit. A team like the Preds or the Wild could use him I'm sure.

I would hate Phaneuf back in Calgary. There were so many stories about him being such a DB in public. Don't care about that? Fair enough.

He did rub some people the wrong way - Regehr and Warrener approached Keenan for him to intervene and tell him to play defence. Couldn't be bothered. Just cared about his offence. Maybe he matured? Maybe.

I don't really believe the whole 'cheating' story with a player's wife, and the 'dust-up' rumor about him and Iginla fighting in the locker room - stupid moronic rumors that probably grew out of control. I don't really think he polarized the room much. It was Iginla's team, and if there was a problem, Iginla wouldn't be buddy-buddy with him at the All-Star game or dinners in TO with him. Iginla's relationship with Phaneuf was really telling.

What I do buy is that the room in Calgary was not 'right' somehow. Was he part of the problem? Maybe. Was he part of the solution? Maybe. I would much rather start fresh. I want more veterans traded away, DIFFERENT vets brought in over the next couple of years to change that room and the culture on this team.

I also don't want the Flames to waste assets in obtaining Phaneuf. I would rather Cammy and Tanguay and whomever else would ever be a part of that trade (Phaneuf is not going to be traded for scraps - as much as I think he is still over-valued personally, he just isn't going to come cheap) I would much rather have those assets return prospects/picks, and have the Flames take some shorter term but expensive contracts in return, and use FA to obtain more vets (to hopefully trade some at the deadline). I hope the Flames do this for 2 years - rinsing and repeating - until that room and this team plays with a "never say die" attitude.

I would LOVE to get Phaneuf back.. I wanted him traded at the time but I think I was more sad when he left than Iggy or Kipper retiring today.

I would do Cammalleri+Tanguay+Half of Cammalleri's salary for Phaneuf in a heartbeat.

We never won because of Iginla. There were always rumblings about him not being a coachable player and he had arguments with Warrener, Regehr, Phaneuf. Didnt he also demand to have Tanguay on his line one season? So yeah, it's my opinion, and I believe although a good player, he was a horrible leader.

Phaneuf shows emotion and while he was here, he did trenendous amounts of charity work. That kind of work within the community is missing from this team and I think he was given an unfair shot in Calgary.

As I said, if he costs us Cammalleri and Tanguay, sure, I an bit suggesting we trade the farm for him.

The leafs finally make thhe playoffs after almost a decade, and look good in doing so. I find it strange/telling that a team trending upwards appears willing to part with their (not that old at all) captain and arguably #1 dman.

I missed phanuef every game I watched bouwmeester as a flame (after phanuef wasa gone), but let's be real, you don't build a dcore around either guy.

No thanks to phanuef coming back.
