This is true and the Flames had one hell of a crappy team in 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009. No captain could have willed those teams to win a playoff game.

This was 06/07 and I think Chelios got it in part for the leadership he showed in the 2004 lockout.

It is in that vein and within that context that Mark Messier individually two years later named Jarome Iginla as the Mark Messier Leadership award winner (after giving it the next year to the great leader Mats Sundin).

I will concede that Iginla had an A on the 2006 Olympic team, valid point.
