The fact they had a Jankowski jersey stitched up does say something. Stitched, not ironed.

How the hell does anyone know whether the lettering was stitched or velcro'd?

It's the second link now but still pretty awesome... and hopefully telling.

They wouldn't gamble losing him to another team if they had him so high. If they think so highly of him, they have to think that other teams do as well, and if you have a top-5 guy available at 14-20, there's no way you just trust that no one else sees in him what your scouts do.
I'm perfectly satisfied that they had several guys they liked at that point. That makes sense. Beyond that, to me it's just the natural desire to believe that the team got their special guy rather than just one good prospect among many.

I would say I'm a very positive guy who is generally optimistic in most things Flames and usually find myself in agreement with many of your posts.
When it comes to Jay Feaster, on the other hand, it's tough to be positive. He is one of the blow-hardiest blow-hards in hockey, and has more or less zero credibility because of that history of bloviating.
I like the Jankowski pick.

Yeah, exactly. There was also one of those NHL video blog things that featured Jankowski, a rep who was bringing Mark through the building to do a media thing pointed it out to him. He seemed really surprised and happy about it too.

If that's the case you have to think they were extremely pleased with how things played out getting two of the three players they coveted. I personally don't have any worries about this management group drafting players as I feel they have done pretty well over the past few seasons especially compared to the previous regime. Drafting seems to be one area where on the outside at least it appears the qualified guys are allowed to do their thing.

With all respect to an excitable 18 year old on the most important day of his life but all that means is it looked like it was stitched on or that the Flames, at great expense had had 3 or 4 names stitched up, 'quick, which one has the kids name on it, he's coming up to the podium now!'.

That's not an "answer", that's just you restating the position that I'm questioning. What I question is this "realizing" that the guy high on their list was below 21 on every other team's list. There's no way they could assume that and there's no way they would have gambled with that if Jankowski had been as high on their list as some have suggested.
But it's really not a very important issue.

Are you just confused about the difference between the "Flames top-5" versus the "consensus overall top-5"? Its not like Reinhart dropped to 14th and they skipped over him.

I would like to see Feaster gone, we need a capable GM for a true rebuild. Its been said before but I think Burke is the right guy, not that i"M a hockey person.

Determining if the jersey was stitched or not may be a new low point for the internet.

if you want to find out who the Flames were thinking of picking go to Africa and look for Flames jerseys with odd names

The fact is most names aren't stitched for picks at that stage of the first. Seems like a silly thing to worry about overall

I've been consistently referring to the Flames' list so I don't know why you'd think I'm confused about that. On this and the rest, re-read my previous posts.

Ironically, FDW explained how they did exactly these things you are claiming are impossible. Jankowski was playing in a league where scouts would have really stood out. I would think in that situation it would actually be really easy to determine how much a player is being scouted as Pro scouts would be a lot more noticable in high school games than in WHL games.
I honestly didn't think that level of research was outside of the realm of possibility. Good thing you are here to set everyone straight.

I'm not sure what they issue is. Jankowski is still trending up by all accounts and is doing good. If this is a Jankowski vs. Teravainen thing, I just don't get it. Not that Teravainen isn't doing OK as well, but it's not like he's done anything to make us regret taking Jankowski instead.

In the 2011 draft, there is some video or pic of the Flames draft list and they had Ryan Murray #7 and Sven #8 on their list... of coarse, Ryan Murray was taken 1 spot before we picked Sven, but we were oh-so-close to picking Ryan Murray over Sven.
