Heh, that's a great image.
I can totally understand that there are certain things that one might desire in a press event/announcement. But it seems like many of the listed thing is completely against the grain of their product line/evolution in the first place. Sounds like little in the realm of actual possibilities would actually please some people.
We had a guy in the office complain similarly - same guy who gets a new BMW every other year. We all concluded that Apple needed to annouce an iphone that gave you a BJ everybody morning for him to be happy with this press event. And for the iPhone 6, Siri would also have to provide a massage beforehand for the iphone to be "acceptable" for him.

I will agree with the micro SD card; however I can see why they do that. Why allow a user to put in a $20 16GB card when they can charge $100 for the same increase in memory?
Myself; the phone delivered what I wanted. Better battery, 4G, and faster CPU. Already liked the camera improvements that came with the 4S, so this is a win for me.
|
I know why they do it as well, but it's a prick move and one that has a negative impact on the user (I have a 32 gig iPhone and am constantly screwing around with what I have on the phone to keep it from being too full to take a photo).
Replacing the back glass was a step in the right direction, but the phone will still be fragile with the glass front. That's where my flip plan would be awesome.
As for the Homer Simpson comment, as if anything I mentioned would have a negative affect on the usability of the phone, with the possible exception of the projector.
One other thing...change the charger port to a micro USB ffs.

No one wants a flip phone.
Yes, MicroUSB is a must. It's the kind of Apple arrogance of their own port that annoys me.

I'm hardly living in a fantasy world to want an SD slot, micro USB and a replaceable battery.

I wouldn't mind micro USB as a whole getting updated to be reversible....

Like I said, I understand why you might want that.
But to expect it or be greatly annoyed at the lack of such a feature at this press event seems a bit out of wack. Their entire iPhone/iPad/iPod line has never had the above. Nor has their evolution/product message ever indicated that it was something they aim to include in the (near) future.
I would suggest that it was VERY unlikely for them to suddenly shift away from that at this press event. Perhaps your expectations/desires simply preclude your purchase of this iteration of the iPhone given the spectrum of realistic possibilities they could have shown today (especially given how much had already been leaked/hinted at.)
And I think people would have been absolutely STUNNED to hear Apple returning to a flip phone form factor.

And that's me. I'll be going from a 3GS to the 5. I got my phone just a few months before the 4 came out; so I have missed the last few upgrades. I have also been elligible for a hardware upgrade for a while (elligible since December, but wasn't ready until March)- so it's nice to see that my patience has been rewarded.
I was really worried there wasn't going to be 4G; or if there was it was going to be some "Apple version" of it where the speeds were really not much better than 3G.
The one thing that bugs me is that they are changing the SIM card again. I only read up on it briefly, but it seems like the new SIM will not be backwards compatable for older devices. I have an Android tablet and my 3GS SIM goes right inside and allows me to surf over 3G.

There will be 1$ adapters to solve that! Just like there was with MicroSim

Yep. I'm going to be going from a 8GB 3GS to a hopefully 64 GB 5. I like that kind of leap. I don't see the point of getting an iPhone EVERY year anyway. It gets kind of expensive, and they don't each have huge upgrades over the last imo. Plus I'm hoping the 5 lasts my entire contract this time.

I wonder how many spoiled brats are going to throw a tantrum in front of their parents begging them to get the new iPhone since their 8 month old 4S is no longer the best?

There is literally nothing about this phone that is an improvement over the S3, which is already a few months old.

well this is about what i expected, small upgrade over the 4S (which in itself was a fairly big letdown) but nothing really new or innovative. if this is what we can expect from Apple post Steve Jobs then i don't know how much longer their market dominance is going to last

I honestly don't think you know what you want out of a phone. I've used both platforms and can legitimately argue that iOS is my favourite between the two.
You're more concerned about this than anyone else on CP. Congrats.

I think a lot longer, the Apple ecosystem is what is driving the user satisfaction as opposed to new features on the hardware. Most people love the convenience and choice of the app store, the iTunes store and the ease of use of the devices. Yes the more technically minded have switched to Android but I have yet to come across a "regular" user pining about walled gardens and rooting phones. There is a lot to be said about the environment that Apple has created.
And frankly I have yet to see the compelling and gamebreaker features that Samsung S3 has demonstrated that is tempting Apple users to abandon the ecosystem.
