Turning off Google Now didn't help at all. WTF. I guess I'll have to buy an extra battery. Seems pretty lame, but I like the phone so much more than my iphone it'll actually be worth it as ridiculous as it is.

It sucks carrying extra batteries, but it's awesome when traveling. Do some research for Anker batteries and the external battety charger for your phone. Ultra cheap and no problems for me after 8 months. Just make sure to get the ones that have good reviews.

I just keep mine on auto, I find it usually chooses the dimmer settings.
I'm also thinking of getting a second battery to carry around. My battery's still decent as its new, but I've noticed the drop from my old phone. So many times I'm standing in line and want to play a few mins of Vice City but then avoid it because I know my battery will get crushed in the process. Annoying to constantly be worrying about it.

Does anyone find that Swype sucks a lot more than it used to? It was my go-to on the S1, it was one of my biggest draws in coming back to the Galaxy this past month.
But I find on my S3 it gets almost every word wrong, I'd say in an average sentence it'll misspell 80% of the words, to the point where I've basically ditched it now. Anyone else finding this? Or do I require a Swyping wand?

On a serious note, have you tried the Beta? Might solve some of your problems.

Definitely noticed that.
I have yet to need the word "tyre" in my messaging ever. I use the word "the" all the time. For whatever reason, Skype seems to go to all of these obscure words constantly.

Weird I can't find Swype beta in the store, I wonder if it has restrictions to outside US and Canada, or more likely just doesn't like Iceland.

Me too, its 100 times better!
Thanks CP, you've gone & done it again. You're the wind beneath my severely technologically challenged wings.

Its not in the Play Store. Open this CP page with your phone, and click that link Anduril posted. Gotta go through a few minutes of DL/personalization stuff, but you'll come out of it a better Swypie man.

I've used Swype quite a bit, even the current beta version, trust me guys, it won't kill you to try Kii Beta. It's pretty damn awesome. All premium features are free during the trial. It is so configurable. It's in the Play Store.

I've solved my battery issues. I can easily go from 6:30 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. every single day. I just turned off LTE (I only use 4G now) and I also tuned off "Use wireless networks" in location services, which also had the effect of disabling Google Now.
On turning off LTE - it would be better if I didn't have to, but it doesn't really affect me TBH. I can still navigate using GPS while streaming a podcast, for example, without any speed or quality penalty.
On turning off "use wireless networks" and Google Now - I miss Google Now, but it wasn't worth keeping on for the amount of power it used.
