Couldn't agree more. If they were to do just one thing for next season, please let it be that.

The patches are by far the worst part about the current jerseys, and there's plenty to dislike about the current jerseys

why are the original six jersey some of the best out there? because they are simple and have never changed. i have always heard ken king talk about the pride in our history, well, back it up and go back to the only jersey this team should of ever had.

There is definitley something to say about our 04 Black C Jersey. Those have something special behind them. It was like all the sudden the Flames went back to Red jerseys and BAM! C of Red went to a whole new level. I have heard out of towners consistently mention they can't believe how many fans wear jerseys are in the stands at flames games. That only happened after the 04 jersey was released.

i do not like the 04 jersey at all. to me, the jersey means nothing in the cup run, the players do.

I still don't know how or why the Flames dropped their primary colour for a couple of years. A red team with no red jersey. I think that the return of the red jersey was embraced because it never should have been ditched in the first place. The cup run and all of the jersey buying that went along with it can't be overlooked either though.

I guess you didn't go to Flames games in the 80's where the C of Red was born?

Like it or not, it set records for sales, and changed the identity of the franchise. The return to red that year

No I was Born in 84, First game was in 91 and was there throughout the 90's when the black horsehead was the primary. Never should have gotten away from red in the first place. But the 04 jersey does have a place in the history of this team.

Agreed.

While I don't think they are the worst ones in the league, I have never liked the current jersey design. That blue Alberta flag (on the sweater, anyway) is atrocious.

Just found this surfing around. Not my favorite, but a well thought out set nonetheless:

I'm a long time lurker, I usually just read CP to get Flames news and roster updates but reading this thread inspired me to register and post. I love the Flames' original 1980-94 look, it was (and still is) one of the best uniforms in the league. The current home and road jerseys are a mess: ugly vertical and horizontal stripes, useless armpit piping, and out-of-place flag patches. I was messing around in Photoshop and came up with with my ideal Flames set; based on the classic flames sweaters but with a few minor tweaks:

Home: The main difference is that the red is one shade darker. I loved watching the Flames school the Oil last night in their vintage threads, but they are a little bit bright on TV. The red should be slightly darker - the same shade the Habs use. Also the hem and pants stripes now match the arm stripes, and the alternate captain letter is no longer a generic 'A.'

Road: This one has a few more changes from the '80's white sweater. I added gold trim to the red shoulders, the hem and arm stripes are now the same pattern as on the red jersey, and I included a lace-up collar because I felt like it.

Alternate: I've never been a fan of black being included in the Flames' colour scheme, but I could live with it on a third jersey. I also have a soft spot for the 1990s 'pedestal' uniforms. Most fans associate that look with the futility of the Young Guns era, but those were the jerseys they wore when I first became a Flames fan and I think they would've been great sweaters if only they didn't include that stupid pedestal detail. I realize that many fans still love the black C jerseys from 2003-04 so my design for the third is a bit of a mashup between those two styles.

Also, no shoulder patches because it's damn near impossible to come up with an alternate logo anywhere near as awesome as the Flaming C, and that space is reserved for Stanley Cup Finals patches only.

I really like the retro jerseys, but I think red/yellow/white doesn't really offer much of a contrast between the colours, so they sort of blend together. I think black (or some other dark colour) would be needed to accent the design.

How great did the Flames/Oilers game look last night?

Sharp jersey's, bold colors, no 3rd jersey 1990's crap. It was perfect.

Laugh at me if you want, but the Flames look tougher in those uni's (and seem to play better).

Spoiler!
I adore this.

Personally, I'd keep the vibrant red our classics are now (a bunch of friends last night who don't see these jerseys often kept pointing out how Calgary looked like fireflower Mario), but the tweaks are perfect.

I as well have a soft spot for the pedestal design. I loved the arm treatment and you've nailed it.

Seriously, I absolutely adore this entire design. Calgary adopting this (but with the brighter red) would leave me elated for years.

Watching the oilers game I really don't see how people can not love the vintage jerseys. I wasn't even alive when they wore those jerseys and they are miles better than the jersey since 04 and arguably better than those as well. People talk about an old tired look, well there are lots of teams that have never made any modifications to their jerseys and are heralded as some of the best.
