Got a little sidetracked after I put my back out around the middle of June. I also had a little staycation for a week and 'enjoyed' life.
I started getting back on track last week after fixing my back, and weighing in today I am still at 205. I thought for sure I would have gained quite a bit in that 3-4 weeks.
I was aiming for 190 for September, but that may be a bit ambitious. Still, 62 total pounds of recorded weight lost, and an estimated 80+ pounds in all is incredibly rewarding.
Now that I have lost all this weight, I am trying more to get in shape. Easier said than done.
Also, another congratulation to everyone who is experiencing success and the best of luck to those just starting their journey! This is one of the greatest things I have ever done for myself, and I know you will feel that way too.

Congratulations and keep up the good work!
The fact that you put a little weight back on and then refocused and pushed past it is a good sign. It shows dedication and commitment.
And for guys like us who are trying to lose 150+ lbs, there might actually be a food addiction to overcome. I know for myself, that I was addicted to junkfood and fastfood. I had to be honest and admit it to myself so that I would not repeat past failures. I can't moderate the intake of ceratins foods (bacon, chocolate, fried foods), so I cannot have cheat days, ever. Keeping that food out of site has kept it out of mind, and therefore I've had mercifully few cravings, so I've rarely had to use any willpower. And so far I've been successful (down 57 lbs in 15 weeks).
Lastly, don't hate yourself, ever. Hate the way you treated yourself in the past, for that is where the true blame lies. And at some point you will have to forgive yourself for that. Chose to honor, love, and respect yourself by eating healthy and exercising regularly. That way you heal your mental and emotional health at the same time you heal your body.

I've been lifting weights for a while (10 years now...from seven days a week to six then five and now four) and I think I'm at a plateau where I can't lose any more weight using my current workout plan. I've decided to change my workouts from:
3 x week of full body and 1 x a week of 50 minutes cardio
to:
1 x week of full body and 3 x a week of 60 minutes cardio
I've been doing this for two weeks now and I don't see a huge difference in weight though I probably shouldn't expect to see any so soon. My question for those here is that should I continue with this new plan? Do you think I'll see more weight loss doing more cardio or should I just revert back to the original workout.

So I've decided it's time I lose some weight. Currently at 185, looking to drop to 160. It doesn't seem like I'm to heavy but standing only 5'6-7 but at nearly 20 years old I am admittedly more chunky than I would like to be.
A little background, I consider myself fairly athletic. I don't tire to easily except if you consider being wiped out after legging out a triple easy. I was apart of a few high school teams ( Soccer, Rugby, Ball Hockey -school was to cheap for ice-) for all 4 years I spent there. Now I've begun playing hardball 1-2 time a week.
However I've always been fairly large ( 178 in my last year of HS ).
The January after I graduated, I joined a gym and began working out but again never really lost any weight despite doing cardio every session along side my weight training. Last March I stopped going, due to many things but nothing I can accept as a legit excuse. I've since cancelled the membership since I will be moving away in late August to go to School in Ottawa. I plan to join up again once I arrive and hopefully I will get back into it.
Diet wise I try to eat a few serving of veggies and fruits a day but other than that I don't have anything set in place.
Starting this upcoming Monday I am going to try and get into Couch to 5K. Hoping it will help to get some weight off, other than that though I have zero idea of how else to go about losing weight.
If anyone has advice, exercise and/or diet wise that would be fantastic. I'm very eager to try new things.
Thanks CP.

EAT. Eat and eat and eat some more. Don't even worry about the type of calories that you are eating at this point, your goal is to put on mass. An easier way to do this is to start eating 5-6 meals as opposed 3 meals a day. Much easier to get your calorie intake up this way. Also, cut out cardio as much as possible. When you go to the gym, you go there for one reason: to lift weights, and lift heavy while you're at it. Focus on compound exercises while you are there. Bench press, squats, deadlifts, dips, pull-ups, etc. These are exercises that utilizes several different muscles as opposed to ones that isolate muscles (like a bicep preacher curl). Much more effective at building muscle. You sound like a hard gainer, so you'll have your work cut out for you, but trust me, once you start noticing results, it feels amazing.

Recently I've seen a number of ads that promise weight loss.
Typically these types of ads show up after Christmas and New Years but I have seen a lot recently.
You know the kinds:
"drink this shake and lose weight fast....
sprinkle this stuff on your food and your brain will know when its full."
Most of us here have come to realize that the only way to lose weight and get healthy is to quit stuffing your face and get some exercise.
Whats your favourite "snake oil salesman" lose weight fast ad?

From a friend who just became a personal trainer September is one of the busiest months at the gym along with january. Could be why you are seeing all the miracle adds. After not caring what I eat or working out I am back down to 175 and not seeing myself fluctuate between 175 and 180 throughout the day. I am crediting playing tennis 3+ times a week. Hopefully I can keep this up and be 165-170 by the end of tennis season!

I really get pissed off at those 'herbal' places that charge an absolute fortune for junk with little or no scientific basis for claiming they help with weight loss:
http://www.cbc.ca/marketplace/blog/2...bal-magic.html
What bothers me most is that people try these things out of desperation, they ultimately fail, and the people give up. The group I belong to (Taking Off Pounds Sensibly) simply got me doing exactly what you said "quit stuffing your face and get more exercise". That is what they are all about. However, we don't have the resources to put ads in the newspaper, or on the buses, or on billboards. It's the snakeoil salesmen that have the resources to sell their fake cures, while those with the real cure have nothing to sell at all. Every time I see an ad for "Herbal Magic", or "Herbal One" or even "Dr. Bernsteins" ... they enrage me to see people pay soooo much money for very bad advice. But they have the money to do it.

This surprises me. I would think the build-up to summer would be way worse than the tail end of it. Perhaps it's the photos from the beach where you realize you look a little worse than you thought. I suppose it could also be that many relax a little too much in the summer.
Congrats to all losing chub in this thread.

I don't know if I agree with all diet plans are junk. My mom lost a ton of weight on bernstein sure it cost her a lot of cash but it kept her committed and showed great results. My sister in law went on herbal magic and lost a ton of weight as well and it helped her change her life style around. My dad lost a ton of weight on atkins back in the day.
These diets do work sure they may cost you money and sure you can do it on your own but usually when people pay money for something they are more willing to work at it then to just try and diet and exercise
**Note I would never do these diets as I am far to cheap and have commitment problems but I swear by ephedrine and caffeine pills. Not the healthiest way to lose weight but sure works!*****
