I think a really nice touch at the end was Gordon looking her up on the union database and seeing her old and happy and married to Greg, and she'd become a successful singer.

It was a great idea for an episode even though it was similar to previous Star Trek episodes. Having Gordon sing with her at the end was very cringe worthy, but besides that, one of the better Orville episodes.

when was this? i thought the last scene was the photo of Gordon and Laura at the bar
Good episode tonight and the seasons stories on the Moclan's and their culture kind of reached a conclusion tonight. I won't go into a huge review, but I really enjoyed this epsiode
Spoiler!
So basically this episode shows us that there is a underground railroad for Moclan females that leads to a colony.
This episode was heavy on the concept of security vs freedom as the Moclan female colony asked for membership into the union so they could be protected from their own species who would force the woman to have corrective surgery and spend the rest of their life in prison.
In the end the shadow of the Kaylons looms large as the Moclan's vowed that they would withdraw themselves and their weapons from the Union if the Union admitted the female colony.
All season we've been learning that the Moclan society is pretty horrible and runs counter to the values of the Union, but they tolerate it because the Moclans build all the weapons for the union. In the end the compromise was that there could be no more smuggling of female children and the Moclan female colony wouldn't be allowed to join the Union and the Moclans wouldn't destroy the colony.
There wasn't a ton of humor in the episode as this was a weighty topic, but the Moclan female leader becoming enamored with Dolly Parton and a fairly intense battle scene with 9 to 5 playing was well done.
The effects in this episode were brilliant, the look of the Orville slicing through the nebula was beautiful. As was the battle on the ground with Kelly showing as a complete bad a$$.
For fans of Star Trek this episode was loaded with Star Trek Actors.
Marinia Sitris had a cameo as a teacher.
F Murray Abraham who was in the awful insurrection had a role as the Union Chair Person
Tony Todd has played several roles in Star Trek, he played Worf's brother in DS9 and TNG, the grown up Jake Sisko,

lol shouldn't we rename the thread, calling this show a spoof still feels quite wrong?
It certainly started out far sillier, but I think as time has gone by that the show has developed its own character and excellent writing and character development to be called a serious show with a bit of humor thrown in.

Yeah, I would agree with that, its not a spoof, its become its own story with its own identity and they dialed back a lot of the humor that they had in the first season

They have gone to far on the serious side. They can't really pull it off with the current actors and writers. They need to find something that is in the middle of S1 and S2.
I do have to say that I'm tired of Bortis and the Maklans. They are riding these guys' stories hard.
We get it. They're weird. Move along.
Problem is that they've created this race that is supposed to oppose humanity's social progress in every way. Bigoted, conservative, patriarchal, etc. So they repeatedly go back to that well to make a message.
I agree, they've spent too much time on these characters and their race. Time to relegate them back to the sidelines as comic relief for a bit.
Give me more Yaphit.

Second last episode of the year, and what i consider to be a setup episode for something major in the finale.
Spoiler!
I liked the idea of a younger Kelly getting pushed forward in time, and the older Kelly having to take a look at her life as a result.
I did laugh at the bar scene, every guy here has had that experience of going on a date to a bar with a girl and you just hate the bar, and you totally lie about it.
Spoiler!
I have to think that either older Kelly sabotaged the mind wipe, or younger Kelly did after seeing the bridge, because I'm convinced that in the next episode we are going to see Kelly as the Captain of the Orville and either Ed isn't there or Ed is like the first officer. I'm also convinced that they're going to go back to the battle of earth against the Kaylon and lose.
Just my two cents.

I really enjoy watching this series, but what angers me is I always forget to set my PVR and then go to on demand to watch it and there's only one episode on there. So I've missed a bunch of shows At least have the last 3???
And to my shock, my 9 year old daughter knows most of the words to 9-5!!!??? "WTF? Where did you learn that song?" "I don't know... just heard it a couple times on some Youtube videos"

Honestly there are some episodes that really don't move the needle, though they are important.
There are a couple of things that I'm loving though
Even last night in a episode without a lot of action, when they role out effects they looks so good. I also really like whoever is doing sound direction in this series. From the music in the background, to last night where they really put the emphasis on the Kaylon engine noises during the asteroid hunt, they made their ships sound absolutely evil.
Need more Stair Well.
Its really exceptional how they've surrounded Seth with a really strong cast and it really works, there are times when Seth looks pretty amateur compared to the rest of the cast, but in an add way it works because Eds supposed to be a little bit socially awkward.
I know a lot of you have hated the Moclan storylines, but two things.
They wrapped it up this season with an episode that was very satisfying.
When you seen Bortas and Klyden in the background, they're hilarious, I loved what they were doing in the bar last night, and still loved the nicotine addiction.
The aging difference between young and old Kelly was amazing.
I really love Scott Grimes, and they've matured him a bit this year, but he gets some of the best comedy bits in the series now, and that was a spot that was saved for Ed, now Ed is almost the straight guy.
Talia was a good choice as a replacement though I still loved that last episode with Alara and her farewell was so strong. But Jessica Szohr has done a good job as a older more secure security chief, but I expect that she's going to get shot in the chest again.

If you go to CITY's website, they have the whole season available to watch (everything beyond the current week's episode requires you to login with your cable provider).
