I have done this numerous times at retail stores that have a Herald Kiosk pushing subscriptions. They always say something like, Oh Sir I am sorry to have bothered you. The look on their face is priceless.

Other things I have said to them:
I whip out of bogus accent and say that I do not understand.
Your dirty newsprint gets all over my hand, that's why I don't read your paper.
I get all the information I need from the internet / television.

They have often called me down in Lethbridge trying to sell me a subscription. When I tell them I don't live in Calgary and don't want to read the Calgary paper they really couldn't care less and continue to try to sell me a subscription. IT p*sses me off that they bothered me in Calgary and even more now that I don't even live there and they continue.

After asking to be removed from the calling lists for the Globe & Mail and The Calgary Herald I haven't received any phone calls bothering me for subscriptions.

It's the only way to go.

Just scream incoherently into the phone. Or make monkey noises. Or....see how long you can keep them on the phone by asking absurd questions.

Just tell them to hold on a second, put them on hold or put the phone down and carry on with what you were doing, let them wait 30 mins or so minimum.

Or ask for their home # and tell them that you will phone them during dinner tomorrow.

Always ask for your name to be removed from the list when they call.
