Also, I avoided the Space Needle. I went to it, just to check it out, but I did not go up. I have no interest in paying whatever it costs just to go and see the city from up high. I also used the public transit to get from my downtown hotel to Safeco to watch the baseball games that I went to. Really good public transportation, including an awesome train ride right from the airport. You pay based on how far you're going to go, and for me that was 2.75 or something.

I’m always amazed these sportscasters and announcers can call the game with McDavid’s **** in their mouths all the time.

Was just there at the end of November, EMP, the Science Fiction museum, and Pike Place are all worth your while in my opinion. $2.50 per person to ride the Train from the Airport right into downtown is a bargain...although there are some dodgy stations inbetween, so keep an eye on your luggage.

Seattle is a fun city though, should be able to find more than enough to do.

I second Salty's. A little pricey, but for the view (especially if you go to the one on Alki) it can't be beat.

The waterfront is great. You can walk to Pike's Place up a bunch of stairs, or check out all the little shops right there on the water. I recommend Steamer's for the best fish & chips I've ever had.

If you're in the mood for a little drive, head east on I-90 to Snoqualmie Falls (right off the freeway). Very beautiful waterfall and a really great drive (though right now the snow is crazy, so may or may not be a great idea when you come).

I've done the underground tour, and, while cool, it's basically the same things over and over after about ten minutes. Check out Savor Seattle at http://www.savorseattletours.com/. Lots of fun dining tours there.

Oh, and a MUST, as far as I'm concerned...Ride the Duck. It looks completely stupid but it's quite entertaining. It's basically an amphibious vehicle that will drive you around and give you a guided tour of downtown Seattle and some of the neighboring areas, and then it will drive right out and into Lake Union. Really fun and unique way to check out the city. You can get tickets at http://www.ridetheducksofseattle.com/.

Let me know if you have other questions - I've only lived here for three years and I'm still finding stuff all over the place. Have fun!

Further to the above, there is a "duck station" (no idea what to call it) just by the Space Needle. I also forgot the mention in my previous post that the Needle is also right beside the EMP/Science Fiction Museum. Also nearby is the Monorail that will take you more into the downtown area - I found it convenient.

Enjoy your trip!

I thought the ducks were a little too corny when I saw them when I was walking around. I want to see the city, not sing YMCA!

I second both Pike's Place and Salty's

Pick up a honey crisp apple from Pike's Place, and check out all of the other local food vendors.

Our hotel had a shuttle to Salty's, and the pricing wasn't unreasonable (no worse than our steakhouses), and the food and views were great.

Heh, I can't speak for the experience - I did do a double take when I first saw it.

Just got back:

Go to Thai Tom's in the U District for the best Thai food you've ever had.

Go to anywhere but Starbucks/Tullys for coffee. There are 100s of good coffee shops that aren't chains.

Check out local neighborhoods like Ballard, Wallingford, and Fremont. There's a less touristy feel and more of a local culture. Fremont has a cool statue of VI Lenin someone stole from Slovakia. They all have several wonderful restaurants.

Head up to Everett to catch a Silvertips game. One of the nicer barns in the WHL.

Seconded, been to their Alki Beach location and it is a beautiful place to take in a meal and admire the Seattle skyline. Great food, but it tends to be really busy so make a reservation.

Pizza at Zeeks not far from the Seattle Center
Zeeks Google Map

Broadway between E Pike St and E Roy St is a good street for some shops and restaurants.
