Series 2 gets released midway through the season...so this year's isn't out till mid-late January I believe...same quality/odds of pulling a rare card...

I probably have the biggest collection of Patrick Roy cards, don't know the values of each one of them, but I'm pretty sure I have some that are worth over $100 each.... I collected when I was like 11 years old.... I want to sell, where should I start?

You won't get anything close to what Becket says they're worth. The cards are only worth what someone is willing to pay.

Really the only market that you can expect to get your money worth (or closer to it) is rookie cards. You can get a decent return on rare jersey/patch cards and rare autographs. Everything else is virtually worthless, there's so much crap being produced these days the market is totally flooded with garbage.

I collected hockey cards as a kid and I still have a box of them that I dont want to throw out because "what if" there's a good card in there, but I don't want to take to a store to ask because I'm convinced that the comic book guy will tell me they're garbage and give me $10 for them..... Life is so complicated. (pretty sure they're worthless)

If they're Score, Proset or OPC and from the early 90's they're not worth anything. If they're from Upper Deck and from the early 90's they're barely worth anything.

Most of my cards are from the 70's and early 80's. That where I thought the value would be in collecting hockey cards. I plan on passing them on to my nephew.

I honestly thought the card collecting hobby was all but gone or transformed into Pokemon cards or whatever.

And I'm still waiting for my 1990 (or was it '91?) Pro Set series to be worth a fortune.

$500 for a pack of 4 or 5 cards. Wow, that's a long way from spending $1 on a pack of Upper Deck baseball cards (and thinking I was splurging).

Every now and then I've thought of getting back into the card-collecting gig. It would have to be as a collection thing though, not as an investment.

What do you get for $500 in one of those extra-fancy sets of cards? Is there a happy medium between the stuff you get at Wal-Mart and the $500 set? Would there even be a point to searching for a happy medium - or would you just be spending extra money on the 'nicer' cards for no real reason?

There are some crazy sets out there. A friend of mine spent thousands to get every card of an autographed set. He's pretty sure he's the only one out there with a complete set (worth $18,000 book value).

Maybe he will become an avid collector ... you never know. If that happened, it would be a bummer for all his childhood cards to be garbage

Upper Deck is your best bet. Panini is another company that started out this season and they have a few products out, but I personally haven't bought anything from them yet.

I would go with a box of UD S1 or go with a box of O-Pee-Chee. S1 has the most regonizable rookie cards. Also you will get a couple jersey cards in the box and a chance at an auto. O-Pee-Chee just came out and is a nice cheap set that you and your young one can go after. 600 card base set. Plus you will get your rookies, jersey cards, parallels and a chance for an auto in the box. And just to be frank you probably won't get anything that is going to be worth a fortune in one of these boxes in the future. Any questions feel free to ask. I'm a big card collector.

Try to explain this as easy as I can. In a 5 card tin you will get 1 base card, 1 Auto, 1 Jersey, 1 Rookie Jersey/Auto card and another card that could be anything. In this product there are many cards that will be numbered 1 of 1. It's been the most coveted product for most collectors since it started in 05/06. The difference between this and say the wal-mart boxes are that the cards are nicer. You can hit a nice 4-5 color patch jersey card while in the wal-mart boxes you'll hit a basic one color jersey card. And that's just one example of many.

that's awesome!, I for one burned a Dale Hawerchuk after we lost to the Jets 50 times in the playoffs and a Roy in 86'. But in 04 I burned the entire Canucks team right before OT in game 7.
