Damn, I'm going to have to try Bolsa one of these days.

Haven't tried all the places on the OP's list (which is very impressive BTW) -- my current favorite is Northview Vietnamese Village across from Deerfoot Mall (not Pho Thanh). The sate beef pho is buttery delicious (I know that sounds weird but that's the only way I can describe it).

Pho Dau Bo has great soup, I heard its not quite as good as it was like 2003-2008 but its still among the best in the city.

Me Kong has good Buns but there pho is questionable at best.

A little family-run place called Pho Anh Huyen on Center street north and about 12th is our favorite. It's a little dingy decor and the service is not great if one of the owner's kids is waiting on you, but the food is great. I usually get lemongrass beef rice vermicelli, but my wife gets the well done beef pho and says it's easily her favorite of any of the places we've tried.

We found the Saigon Pearl to be quite nice. My wife enjoyed it so much, she keeps bugging me to take her there again even though we live on the other side of the city. Saigon Pearl is located in the same mall structure as the T&T Supermarket just off Centre Street N in Harvest Hills.

Pho Dau Bo and Basil are probably my two favourites. The owners of Basil are the original owners of Pho Dau Bo and use the original recipe, so if you want a throwback to what the soup used to taste like at PDB, check out Basil on 32nd Ave, by where the Chuck-E-Cheese used to be.

If I had to pick between the two, I would probably go with Pho Dau Bo.

Update: Due to a visit to Basil that occurred on January 12, 2011, I have changed my mind, and would choose Basil if it came down to the two.

Nope, Pho Huong Viet is the one on the other side of 17th Ave, in the same parking lot as Kayne's and Tim Horton's. Same owners as Vietnamese Sub Express (the one beside 7-11) though, according to Ducay in post #15.

Mina's in Avenida is the best I've had in the city. Excellent broth, and not loaded with cilantro (which is usually the one thing that puts me off).

With that in mind, if anyone can recommend a place in the NW with a great pho, I'd love to find a closer place. I've tried a lot of the ones near my house, and nothing compares to Mina's.

Essence of Saigon Garden is the best Pho in the city, bar none. Right across from Winston Churchill, try it and you won't be disappointed.

Funny story, I am a bit of a Pho Sate lover myself, however when I was in Vietnam I couldn't eat the stuff just because it would make me so friggin hot. I'd get 1/4 through a bowl and need a shower. Worst humidity I've ever experienced.

Pho Xuan is the best place, but some people don't like because it looks ragity. Kind of low quality furniture and setting.
