there is nothing you can do, unless you have exchanged with some sort of money. but even then - they can simply tell you to wait for your vehicle to show up.

Nope. Just a good salesman doing what it takes to not lose a customer and a sale. I did some sales in my younger days and would have done the same thing.

So very wrong. You can play hardball and demand the car that is listed by VIN in the signed agreement. When they can't provide it, you can seak redress (sue) for that car, and for lost wages due to not having a car, etc

Obviously ridiculous, but they have their balls on a table, I'd ask for free oil changes for life, a loaner and a guarantee the exact same spec car with lower KM will be available to you within a week.

There's a natural progression to these things. He's on step 1 and you're skipping straight to step 7 presupposing they're going to screw him when this may turn out to sweeten the deal all the more (which it will if the dealership handles it properly).

So far, the salesman may be doing a good job for all we know. He called the customer and told him there's a problem. This doesn't equal run to High River for a parasite-mobile. Next step will be for the OP to talk to the salesman about what they can do to make it right, negotiate, etc.

Never said they were going to screw him. Just gave him options as to what he can do.

Selling him a car that was sold by another dealership isn't doing his job. There are processes to verify it hasn't been sold.

The OP is right in checking out his options before he talks with the salesman asking what they are going to do for him.

If the VIN Number is on the bill of sale I would say the sale is void if the vehicle listed is not provided.

So how do you know the other dealership didn't screw up? Why is it automatically the OP's salesman's fault? I think you're jumping to conclusions and giving crappy advice.

The next thing to do is talk to the salesman, find out what happened and see what they're willing to do.

Sounds like it's the other dealership's fault and not the dealer he was dealing with.

Stopped by and talked to the manager. The other dealer sold the car this morning(not sure how the system allows that to happen considering all financing and everything was done last night).

I haggled an added option to his search(it was an extra one on vehicle they "sold" to me) and some cash incentive.

They are hoping to find one tonight and then would just have to get it here.

Sucky situation, but it happens sometimes. Probably see that exact scenario a couple times a month here, as you can imagine there is a few flaws in the logistics. A sales guy at the selling dealer could be in the midst of selling the vehicle as you are buying it elsewhere, and it hasn't been updated in their locate system yet. Or it is a demo, or a loaner etc etc. Obviously a random dealer that is giving up a piece of inventory to another dealer for no net profit is going to be inclined to look after the guy sitting in front of him, not another dealers customer.

Just be reasonable with the dealer and I am sure you aren't locked into anything. However, just see if they can locate you something that matches what you are looking for in a reasonable time frame. If you are satisfied with the dealer thus far, an honest mistake should not be a deal breaker.

That, or come get the CP deal on a vastly superior VW Tiguan

Checking out all his options is crappy advice?

Your advice wasn't to check all his options, it was to go to High River. Don't you know I can just click back and see what you said? Are you trying to trick me into thinking you laid out a bunch of intelligent options for him? Because you haven't offered anything remotely close to a good idea in this entire thread.

As for the "he's already done that"...he posted he had done that after my suggestion was made. Just look at the times of the posts.

I'm adding you to my list of possible trolls. I just find it hard to believe you're for realz.

Guess you didn't read this part....

That's well after you told him to go to High River and bail on the deal. Are either senile or too obtuse to remember what you posted?
