My favorite part so far is the bit about the guys who've been waiting for parts with their broken down truck for just over a year! I've lived in Africa, but never had this kind of adventure, we stuck to the "good roads" as much as possible. My mom's in the Central African Republic (just north of the DRC) right now. In all my family's foreign service careers we've never known anyone who's been to CAR. I'll be curious what she has to say about it. It's not in the news much (ever), so that's probably a good thing when you're talking about Africa. This story really highlights a lot of what's dreadfully f-ed up in a lot of Africa. Not everywhere, but too many places.

I figured I would check it out, and have become addicted. That really is a great read...just the kind of thing I wish I had the means (and the balls) for.

The craziest part for me is when their driving small village to small village and getting chased away by machete weilding villagers.

Finished it all. Crazy stuff. I'd never do it, that's for sure. They didn't even bring a winch with them.

The machete wielding villagers reminded me of Resident Evil.
