Ya that would be a pretty crude joke, there is no way that someone would joke about that (well at least not on CNN)

Now it's saying that the Vatican is denying he's dead.
Is this a confirmed denial or will this denial be later denied?

Anyone ever read the Pope John Paul II comic book? I have no idea where it came from or what it is, but I seem to recall copies being present in my elementary/junior high (Catholic, of course).
Pretty cool little tale of his life, including a strafing run (I believe) by German fighter-bombers.

I read an article about six months ago that one of his potential successors might be a Canadian.

I believe one of the front runners in the Pope race is Cardinal Marc Ouellet, Primate of the Catholic Church in Canada and Archbishop of Quebec.

I read that too. Apparently there are three factions arguing where the next Pope should come from.
One faction wants to see an Italian, believing the church has neglected it's breadbasket.
One faction wants a North American, hoping to gain appeal in the new world - which is where our Canadian comes in.
And, iirc, the third wants to see a "minority" in the new world. I believe there is a Mexian arch-bishop who is promoted in this case.
Sounds like the politics of deciding who the Pope should be is as cut-throat as anything else.

The election of the pope, or rather the way they announce it with the coloured smoke has to be one of the most interesting traditions of the church. Quite the process if i remember right.

So you went to a catholic school too. [/b][/quote]

Quite the sequence from pronouncing death to the election....forgot about the smoke thing.

Some religious people who believe that the book of Revalations has predictions of the future say that we should beware of the next pope. Not that I'm a rapturist, but some powerful people are.

I don't know. I read it on some regious freak website a while back. Like last year sometime.
Likely some gross misinterpretation by the wingnuts.

I did read that one years ago. It was a Marvel comic I believe. He's had quite the life.

I've got a copy of it. He did get strafed by Nazis and later they hit him with a truck. Then the Soviets... It really is quite a story.
It's a Marvel comic. Even has a picture of Spiderman on the cover. Stan Lee is the publisher. 1982. 64 pages and not a single advertisement.

He was a well-rounded guy, far from the frail person lying on his death-bed today. He played rugby in his youth, spoke 11 languages, etc.
I seem to remember seeing the enclave and smoke thing in the Godfather or some other mafia movie about the time period of the last Pope's death or something, am I crazy?
It would be interesting to have a Canadian Pope but I doubt that would happen. The rally cries seem to be strongest for an Italian pope as the Catholic Church seriously needs a Western European revival. There is also a call for a minority pope from the third world such as a central/south America or Africa because that is where the religion is strongest.
I'm not catholic myself, but my grandparents are and I've always respected it very much.
That website is frightening, it claims the next Pope will reign during the beginning of the tribulation. It also says that the Pope may come from the Order of Saint Benedict. I don't know what that is, are any of the listed potential Papal candidates from that Order?
