The principle behind the 'R' rating doesn't seem right... as moon said, it should be up to the parents if they want to allow their children to see it.

I don't understadn the need for an R rating anyways. If I want my kids to see the movie and feel they are up to it I should be able to bring them with me. I don't need someone telling me that I don't even have the option to bring them with me to see it.

Now that would work fine if all parents were responsible, and were good parents, however you must realize that there are a great number of parents who wouldn't think twice about what their children viewed, and the effects that the images had on the childern. In a large number of cases I would think that the parent doesn't even have second thoughts about the violence that their childern view, and that is a sad fact in my opinion.

If a parent is too irresonsible to decide what movie their kids can or cannot see then the fact that child might see a movie some people deem to be harmful would be the least of my worries.
also what gives others the right to not only tell me what movies are appropriate for my children but to then also tell me I am an rrespnsible paretn for letting them see it.
People way overreact when it comes to things like this in my view. It is a movie thats it. It isn't the end of the world if kids see violence or a tit or two.

I don't just think the "R" rating is for the benefit of the kids or parents who don't know if they should bring their kids, I think it is for the others in the theatre who don't feel all that comfortable watching those kinds of movies with kids around.
I went and saw South Park: The Movie at the theatre and there were parents there with young kids and it made me feel pretty uncomfortable. Plus, the kids were screaming and howling too much. It definitely should have been restricted for everyone's benefit.

I saw it last night and can for sure see the reasoning for the R rating. I would suggest that it was not the depiction of the violence, but rather the sadistic nature of the violence.
EDIT: by the way, I thought it was an amazing film

Of all the people here who saw it so far, have you read the comics too? I haven't seen it yet, but it looks as if they used the comics word for word almost.

Very good movie. I agree that the violence was done in an "Over-The-Top" manner such that it wasn't really that bad. Much like Kill Bill I. I'd have to agree with the reasoning that the other themes caused the "R" rating: Cannibalism, sex, violence, killing etc.
Great movie. Make sure you see this one guys...especially if you like hot chicks wearing very little clothing. (Yay Jessica!!)

But who are you (not blaming you, just using you as an example) to say that these effect kids, you know when Columbine happened everybody was just happy with blaming Video Games, TV and Marilyn Manson, did it ever occur to anyone that It might of been because the fact they were picked on at school and were ignored by their parents,
My Cousin's on different sides of the family were opposites, one was allowed to do whatever he pleased (watch any movie, stay out late ie. to most people being overexposed) while the other had to wait till the day he turned 18 to watch an 18A movie. Ones a 7-11 manager while the other is making 6-figures owning his own busnesses. And it's not the way that most people would assume, yes believe it or not folks someone who was allowed freely to do whatever he wanted didn't go out and kill people or wreck his life with a crappy job, but makes huge bucks doing what he wants to do Sadly people blaming overexposure for failure are using it as a cop out for crappy parenting.

The movie was very cool and over the top. I enjoyed it a lot. The whole movie just had an awesome feel to it. It makes me want to check out the comics.
I can understand where there was an R rating there though.

Went and seen Sin City last night, what a damn cool movie. By far the best moving of 2005 so far. The story telling was great, the characters were amazing and they got away with alot of silly/cool stuff because they just followed the comic book. Alot of zany characters that didn't need any long backround stories.
Nick Stahl was great in the movie, actually everyone was. Great movie..

Or, going by the film, as a guest at The Maid
Lots of violence for sure (loved it myself) but lets not forget the gratuitous nudity and scantily cladness too!
