Your first year riding in the snow is a learnig experience, but your route will be plowed most of the time. You'll fall a few times, but then you'll learn where you need to slow down. and it's not a long ride in.

That said, my ride in is a long one and I'm going to buy studded tires for the first time. I'll post something up when I get a few rides in.

After today I'm 100% getting them. The roads in the neighbourhood just to get me to the pathway system are nearly impassable. Any roads that have a bit of a crown to them sucked me to the curb because of the slope and my total lack of steering on this slush covered ice. Blah. Anyone know where to not get rippped off on them?

$65. 14 reviews and a 4 star rating. One person gave it a 1 star so that's perhaps skewing things a little.

You guys are insane!! I commute to work on my bike from Cranston in the summer and riding on the roads is scary enough then - never mind snow and ice added to the mix.

It wouldn't matter the gear and attention I took - I know someone else would be the reason I'd get flattened.

Good for you guys though - it's freaking cold out there!!

This is the absolute best part about winter riding. You become the cold's Chuck Norris.

I need to get a studded front tire so that I can bike to work in these conditions too. For my commute, it's faster than the bus. I can't take the family car every day.

Bus trip (bus, LRT, Walk) takes 28 minutes.

Bike takes 15-18

Driving on a normal day takes 10-12 usually, up to 15, longer with poor conditions.

I stay off the roads as much as I can, 80% of my ride is along the river and on dedicated paths, I don't trust Calgary drivers that much.

Was a bit nippy this morning but still sweated up my shirt, quite a workout getting through that snow for 8 km each way.

Habernac, how many kms is your trip?

don't forget a heated pair of gloves. Also, add in the fluorescent vest on that list in case you don't get home until it gets dark. It's hard for the driver to see a cyclist and hard for them to stop on time.
