My personal fav is Sushi Hibiki. Great food and reasonably priced. Almost half the price of Zipang.

Best all you can eat is Sushi King on 16 ave near centre.

Wa's, Sushi Club, and Zipang are my fav's otherwise.

Wa's was a weekly lunch spot for a couple years, no complaints at all.

I know eh? I didn't expect it to be good either first time I went since it's almost just a hole in the wall.

Sushi Hiro's my fave... on 5th Ave SW downtown. Very "authentic"... no glitz & glam just great sushi.

Towa Sushi is good on 4th St SW (south of downtown). Don't let the pricing throw you off, the portions/pieces are HUGE... like 3-bite rolls, 4-bite Sashimi.

^^^^ Exactly, I spend the same amount to get full at Towa as I do at Misato's but I have to buy twice as many rolls at Misato's. I guess that could be a downside of Towa, that you can't really try out a bunch of rolls at once. The spicy salmon roll is amazing, tons of salmon and spicy sauce. Yum!

Am I the only one that can't taste the fish when it's loaded with that spicy sauce? Must be too hot for me.

as for the OP, i'm not a fan of all you can eat sushi in Calgary. There are no decent cheap places, and for the amount you spend, you can get a decent meal at most sushi places.

Zipang's, Wa's, Misato's are still my favorite 3 places. I find their fish the freshest.

I want to start looking for some new small sushi places and see if I can find more hidden gems like Wa's was at the beginning.

Stay away from Misai in the northeast, horrible service and they rip you off with amount of sushi they give you. I ordered salmon roll, the salmon pieces will smaller then my finger nail. I didn't even tip them but they gave me a survey to fill out and I wrote will never come back again. It took them 15 minutes to get water for me and they place was empty.

Sushi is pretty good for the most part. Nothing really special, its more traditional fare though not as traditional as WA's across the street.

Shikiji's good for other things besides sushi tho. Lots of noodles and stuff you don't get at just sushi japanese restaurants.

I don't think Shikiji has great sushi - not terrible either though. I always go there for the ramen though. That stuff is the best that I've found so far in the city. The off the menu ramen (I can't remember the name, just ask about the off the menu one) is so freaking good.

Agreed, the guys have one of the best soup bases in the city. Though nothing like the ones in Vancouver. Apparently from what I've heard some of those places have kept the same pot of soup going for years by adding in new ingredients and water like they do in Japan.

I wonder how sanitary that is sometimes though.

Second on Momo-yama, great little place. What it lacks in fancy decor it more than makes up for in price & quality.

But call ahead for reservations, otherwise you'll be doing take out.

Way overpriced for mediocre sushi.

+1 for Misato. Tried it last night.

Went there last night.

Took 50 mins to get our sushi.

Took 55 mins to get my Ramen.

The place wasn't that busy either as 3 tables had just finished when we put in our order.

Wow, that's brutal. I go there about once a week and have never had to wait like that. Not even when it's been full. Did they at least apologize?
