Apparently passengers should be trained to deal with crocodiles as well.

Yes, I am sure the croc opened the cockpit door, went right for the pilot, bit his head off, then steered the plane into the ground.

No, passengers are trained to lead said crocodile straight to the pilot.

Well you're blaming the pilot. What could have been done in your opinion that would have prevented this tragedy?

It was an old 19 seat plane used for short flights in the Congo. I rather doubt there was a cockpit door, or other amenities.

Ok, well that changes it a bit. So what did these passengers and flight attendent do then, attack the pilot? Tell me how the pilot loses control of the airplane due to what had to be a small crocodile loose? I think some pople have been watching too many movies like Lake Placid, the crocodile is not going to just start attacking and eating passengers.

Ever wonder why sometimes flight crews have to deal with overly large and heavy luggage in overhead compartments? Planes can tip. Hell, busses can tip.

Well, according to the sole survivor, everyone rushing to the front of the plane while the plane was landing caused it to crash.
Quote:
'One of the passengers had hidden the animal, which he planned to sell, in a big sports bag, from which the reptile escaped as the plane began its descent into Bandundu.
'The terrified air hostess hurried towards the cockpit, followed by the passengers.'
The plane was then sent off-balance 'despite the desperate efforts of the pilot', said the report.
'The crocodile survived the crash before being cut up with a machete.'

Ok, well that makes more sense then. This a senseless tragedy and the ony person that deserved that fate is the moron who snuck a crocodile on a plane.

The crocodile survived the wreck, but was killed by a machete, according to msnbc.com
So technically I guess there were two survivors of the actual crash.

Back when I was flight instructing we had a big bee that decided to hitch a ride with us. My student (who was on the controls) totally paniced and flinched (putting the plane in a nice dive) before I grabbed the controls. Told him to calm down, open a window (this is just a little Cessna) and try and coax the bee out that way. Ultimately we had to kill it with the big green book (the Canadian Flight Supplement, about 2 inches thick).
Just goes to show how an exterior influence can cause a pilot to lose focus of what is most important, flying the plane.
Edit: The LET 410 is a small regional turboprop, very easy to see how 20 people moving forward would throw the centre of gravity off and reduce control inputs to the point of no return.

This.
I had a similar experience with a wasp when I was getting my private license. Temporarily panicked but recovered right away.
A plane takes enough focus to fly without a crocodile and 20 passengers running towards the cockpit while landing. The weight and balance of small craft can definitely be thrown off by passengers all moving to any one area, to have it happening during landing would be very difficult to deal with.

Don't forget the classic example of forgetting to fly the plane, Eastern Airlines 401. Long story short, the entire flightdeck crew (Captain, FO, and Engineer) were so fixated on a landing gear indicator light not illuminating that they did not notice the autopilot was disconnected and the plane lost altitude until it hit the everglades, killing 101 people.
That landing gear indicator light? It was burned out.

in any situation like this it is always easy to blame the croc......I have been on plenty of flights where there was never and issue with the crocs on board. I mean granted, adults should never wear them, but people got feet and they need shoes.....

My feet are about size 11. How much for a pair of mid rise boots? Is there usually enough leather left to make a belt or hat band after you've cut out the boots?
