Just outside of the Core, and I got a walkscore of 80. Which I think is pretty reasonable. Thing is, they counted a crappy little corner store as "Groceries"...and let me tell you, the groceries I've seen there can scare anyone with an iron stomach.
However, both Safeway and Co-Op are within a 20 minute walk.

I'm constantly amazed at the shocked looks I receive whenever I tell many Calgarians that I don't own a car. It's completely unfathomable to them that I could get around without a vehicle. What do I need a car for, though, when I have the following within a short walking distance of my inner-city home?
- workplace
- grocery store
- liquor store
- 24 hour convenience store
- pharmacy
- post office
- shopping (downtown mall)
- dozens of pubs, restaurants, and coffeeshops
That covers about 98% of my trips. For the other 2%, I can get about either by C-Train or taxi -- MUCH cheaper than owning a car.

When I lived in the Beltline, I never had to drive anywhere either. One winter I started up my car 6 times. I know this, because there was an issue with the Battery, and I needed a boost each time. I got by more than well enough with that level of car ownership there.
Alright, I am 12 up here in Sage Hill. But then, I already know I'm car dependent. Good thing I like to drive, so I don't mind. It's not like I'd take city transit even if it were available.

The site measures amenities that are within walking distance of your home, not availability of nearby public transit.
72 in Bankview- my first address in Calgary was Century Garden Apts and the score there is 95. I never drove when I lived there and very rarely drive now.
