N^2 gets 1 shot to prove to me he isnt some Suzuki Foundation lapdog and that he can resist the burb-builder influence that has infected city hall.

Did you read his column in the Herald? Should give you a pretty good idea of what he about (hint: he more's left than NASCAR).

Can't believe Hodges won again. I gave way too much credit to my ward for realizing that this guy is a complete waste of space.

Yes I did read his columns, which is why I donated to his campaign before he announced and why I voted for him.

The things I care about Left vs Right in Provincial and Federal politics dont really apply on the municipal level which is why I am giving him 1 chance.

He might be suzuki foundation left but he is limited in what he can do at city hall. Since I am one of the people who own a condo which happens to share the same piece of city real estate as 5 other units and yet I am taxed the same as if i had some small house or townhouse with a backyard is something I hope he will try to level the playing field.

While I am against spending 25m on a footbridge because some people want to be more cosmopolitan with some euro trash designer, I am also against spending that 25m instead on some overpass in Sundance.

You always believe what people tell you? Mciver was the Heralds choice because their biggest source of revenue is the developers that advertise with them, who also happen to be Mciver's biggest supporters.

In true fiscal conservatism, the business should pay the true cost and factor it into price. What's been happening is that houses built on the outskirts are getting their water/sewer etc paid by the city, that's my taxes, your taxes, and business taxes going to what should essentially be paid by the people buying the new homes. That's not capitalism, that's crony capitalism and It has to stop. If I buy a big house in the suburbs, I should pay the $10K for the water/sewer. Why should Calgary taxpayers pay for it? What if the developer paid for water/sewer but the city paid for granite counters or hardwood floors on the outskirts? It would be the same thing, but THAT would be an outrage? It's BS!

Very happy that Fox-Mellaway was defeated, would have liked to have seen The Butcher get the position.

You're quite strange with the conspiracy theories.

Can we then say Nenshi was funded by those same developers, who gave the Herald money via advertisements that paid for the Herald's columnists?

Who's paying for the airport tunnel then?

Also, I don't really care for your tone. It's that divisive tone that you Nenshi supporters claim broke council, yet here you are, criticizing.

I suppose you wouldn't be talking to me in a condescending tone if I lived downtown, right? (Or, maybe I do, and I just want to hear how people react to opposing view )

What's your tax assessment? Let's compare against mine, please, before you start to complain about who pays more.

Hell, I'll give him three chances.

City policies actually impact people the most. That's typically why mayors are very left-leaning - they're okay with spending that directly impacts citizens.

Not sure why you didn't understand his stance on issues if you claim you read his column.

Ok, but then because I live in the burbs, I don't feel I should be paying for LRT expansion or any improvements to bike paths and foot bridges downtown since I don't use any of these services. Why should my tax dollars go to something I don't use?

Because, there's people that still believe a house in the suburbs costs $150K.

The results look good regarding the mayoral race. I just hope all the promises of change are followed through.

One thing I'm not too happy about are the comments that political Jay Feaster had on Global's coverage last night. He said a lot of things that weren't right or just sounded stupid (i.e. "he's a visible minority but articulate" and "his family was deported from Africa."). I don't know when last night it changed from "Great job Calgary for voting on change" to "Great job Calgary for voting a brown guy as the mayor".

That's pretty close. Will they be doing a re-count?

For the record, I was just stating that for argument's sake. I actually agree tax dollars should go towards LRT expansion and downtown improvements. In fact, I actually support the money used to build the Peace Bridge (I disagreed with the process to secure the funding, but I support the project itself).

I'm just tired of all these downtown elitists who think they're better than us suburbians. Not everyone wants to live downtown or near downtown. Heck, I don't even work downtown, so why would I want to constantly deal with all the traffic in the core?

I heard them say last night that it needed to be within 500 for the mayoral vote to have a recount. I presume the aldermanic would be alot less since there's alot less votes per race.... not sure if there's a set # or if its an appeal process.

City of Calgary page shows she won by over 1200.
http://www.gov.calgary.ab.ca/election/

In my neighbourhood, there were a lot of people who liked Druh's politics, but hated her lack of professionalism at times, while Taylor acted far more professional, but had a political stance that was just too right-wing. I think if someone a little more lefty than Taylor had mounted a good campaign, he would have won easily. Anyway, hopefully this result is close enough that it makes Druh realize that she needs to change her style or she will get punted next time.
