I've been most impressed with Chicago's O'Hare airport so far; but have yet to do any continental travelling, so can't speak for places outside of NA.

I thought Detroit's was just incredible for its sheer size.

Edmonton has a beautifully renovated airport 5 minutes south of the city...not quite as big as Calgary's, but much nicer.
It doesn't have much in the way of veiwing compared to Vancouver, but then again it doesn't have a veiw of a city that looks like a huge grass fire burnt everything but the houses.
Spring...brown
summer...brown
fall...brown
winter...white and brown
Are there any trees in Cowtown?

5 minutes? If Leduc counts, yes.
Here's the oasis called Edmonton International.

I live right by south edmonton common...and you are stretching it a little with your time to get there. Even speeding.
But its an ok airport. But it is tiny.

I agree, I don't think its that close to south edmonton common. Regardless, I live on the north side, and it takes a long ass time to get there.
The bottom line is that I don't give a shinguard (yes, I typed shinguard) how nice the airport is. I rarely use it, and when I do I forget about it the second I am on the plane.

Well you seriously must not obey the speed limit.
Drove back and forth from that airport about 5 times in one day a month ago. I guess once you pass the Ikea it's usually smooth sailing if there's no big rig's.
But takes a good 10-15 minutes.

I flew to NYC and back for 2 for roughly the same fare over the same weekend, including all my taxes and fees - or just less then $800.
Funny....

I've been to both Calgary and Edmonton's airports a number of times. Calgary's is definitely much larger. Calgary's airport gets better every time I visit. There's always renovations going on, and Edmonton's has improved by leaps and bounds since the renovations. The WestJet side of the airport and the baggage pickup area still need a huge makeover, but the new areas are really nice and it's changed a lot if you haven't been there for a few years. The worst part is getting there. If you really want to see an airport that's stuck in the 70's, come out to Winnipeg. Luckily, they're beginning construction on a new terminal next year.
We have a stop over at Chicago's O'Hare next month. I'm really looking forward to checking out that airport.

Just for fun, a ranking of airport terminals i have been in over the past 9 months. Ranked from top to bottom, with a score out of 10 for how good they are in my eyes for their size, and a comment.
Toronto T.1 10/10 (Amazing, still being finished, VERY easy to navigate - best emerging public space technologies)
Vancouver 9.5/10 (Large, efficient, a bit confusing to navigate but a beautiful pacific entry point)
Calgary 9/10 (Clean, modern, comfortable, cozy)
Bangkok 7.5/10 (Old but very efficient at handling huge volumes)
Manila 6/10 (Deceptive - beautiful departure gates but scary and much smaller then you may initially think)
Toronto T.2 6/10 (Clean - Functional)
Koh Samui 10/10 (VERY efficient and surprisingly busy but SMALL, literally just huts.)
Toronto T.3 5/10 (Average secondary terminal?)
NYC - LaGuardia 1/10 (Horrible)
Interestingly Toronto T.2 is VERY VERY similiar to Laguardia, same era it seems, but one has had repairs, paint, cleaning, etc., since it was built and the other looks like it is all original.... in a bad way....

It is only 7 minutes from South Edmonton Common if you are starting on Calgary Trail at the 19th street intersection at 3 AM in the morning.
If you start anywhere inside SEC, add 10-40 minutes depending on the time of day just to get out of that clusterpuck, and depending on the number of idiots on Calgary Trail (which is, really, most of the cars on the road), traffic will kill you as well.
5 minutes from city limits I can buy, though it was stupid to build an international airport in Leduc.

I've taken about 30 flights from Edmonton International airport. From South Common it takes no more than 12-15 minutes.
Hong Kong's airport is the World's best. It took us about 30 minutes to get in the city limits.....and that was at 1 AM.

Edmonton doesn't have an International Airport, Leduc does.

My favourite mid-size airport is located in St. Louis.
It's new. It's clean. Bigger than Calgary's I believe. Plus LRT Train access to the core.
That's one thing I would love to see in Calgary - the extension of the LRT Line to the airport.

i like La Guardia....its close to my apartment so that cab fare is cheaper than the others, its never full of people cause its hated so much, and they are nice enough to lose my luggage so i dont have to haul it home myself. good times.

I hope you're being sarcastic here...
LRT extension=hundreds of millions out of city coffers=more propety taxes
