Injuries are said to be non life threatening. Both cruisers were on the way to the same call - and had their sirens on. Just didn't see each other I guess.
Duty Inspector Vic Trickett tells 660News, a marked police vehicle heading north on 44th hit an unmarked CPS vehicle heading east on 8th Avenue, they then ran into three other vehicles.
Both police cruisers had their sirens on and were responding to the same call. The traffic unit is investigating who had the right of way.
Three officers and one other person were sent to hospital, but the injuries are non-life threatening.
Very good news. Hard to tell from the pictures but the windshield on the unmarked car was completely caved in. I thought no way someone was coming out alive from that car.
I lost my father in a car wreck and I thought the doughnuts thing was funny. Toughen up a bit.

Not to often you hear about two cop cars crashing into each other.
This happened in the last few years here (former home of the Heat), and the officer was pretty seriously hurt, but fortunately did survive. I don't know if I ever read exactly what went wrong...

He appears to have hit a pole at a high speed.

The lead car was going too fast to make that corner, I have no idea what he was thinking. They had a green light so there shouldn't have been any cross traffic, and he had to know the other cruiser was there, they left the parking lot @ the same time. Strange
Edit, I looked at it again, he was going to crank that corner, sometimes these cops get a bit carried away, jeez.

I can tell you exactly why that accident happen...lead car (#1 lets say) approaches the intersection and notices a car coming on the right hand of the screen, to make a right hand turn. Police train to clear intersections and when responding with more than one car, its quite common for the lead car to block traffic and allow the other car to leap-frog them. It seems to me like the #1 car tried to block the civilian car that was about to make a right hand turn and #2 was offset to the right hand side for some reason.
I highly doubt the cop was trying to make that right hand turn.
and in regards to the crash that happened in Calgary:
On October 3, 2010 at approximately 16:53 hours, an unmarked police vehicle, a 2007 Ford Crown Victoria was proceeding eastbound 8 Avenue S.E. with its emergency equipment activated approaching the intersection with 44 Street S.E.
At the same time, a marked police vehicle, a 2008 Ford Explorer was proceeding northbound on 44 Street S.E. with its emergency equipment activated approaching the intersection with 8 Avenue S.E.
Both of these vehicles entered the intersection at the same time and collided with one another.
Following the initial collision, the Ford Crown Victoria then collided with a 1999 Olds Alero, which was in the left westbound travel lane of 8 Avenue S.E. just east of the intersection.
The Ford Explorer then collided with the front end of a 1990 Toyota Four Runner, which was in the right westbound travel lane of 8 Avenue S.E. just east of the intersection, waiting to turn northbound onto 44 Street SE.
The Toyota Four Runner was then pushed into the front end of a 1994 Chevrolet Pickup Truck.
The occupants of the Ford Explorer and Ford Crown Victoria were transported to the Hospital with minor injuries. A female passenger in the 1994 Chevrolet Pick up was also transported to hospital with minor injuries and later released.
