This show was moderately amusing. Yes, the stapler in the jello was funny, but it was also one of the few clips in the promos. By the time the show aired, I'd seen the stapler in the jello about 45 times. It was only funny the first few.
There were a couple other almost funny parts, but all in all I won't go out of my way to watch it. I'd bet it will last a few weeks, but we probably won't be seeing it in the fall.

I never understand the need to do Americanized versions of British TV shows. Why not just show the original shows over here? It makes no sense. The Brits watch original American shows all of the time. I remember growing up there watching "Cheers" religiously.
I know that one of the arguements is a problem with understanding accents and slang but the same could be said of the British listening to American accents but they watch American shows all of the time. Everyone has an accent but they just don't realise it. When I first moved to Canada it took me a while to understand meanings and accents. Anyone, getting off topic now. Bottom line for me is that shows tend to lose something when they are redone and transformed. US Coupling for example was absolutely terrible but I love the UK version.
Call me stubborn but I don't think I'll be watching this version of "The Office."

BTW, I really loved Newsradio (until Phil Hartman died). Does anybody else like that show? It was very intelligent and creative for an American comedy.

NewsRadio is probably one of the funniest shows of alltime. The episode were they find out Dave is Canadian is hilarious.

That was my favourite show for years.
Bill: "If Jimmy tells us to tighten our belts, well I just say, 'How tight?'"
Dave: "Do you now?"
Bill: "Yes, I do. I say, 'Cinch it up nice and snug, sir. I can take it.'"
Dave: "Really?"
Bill: "You're damn right. Why back in the early days of radio, all they had were jungle drums beating the rhythmic message of traffic and weather from village to village. But did they complain?"
Dave: "Hell no."
Bill: "Do you hear me complaining?"
Dave: "Hell no! 'Cause you got a massive, secret raise that caused all these problems in the first place."
Bill: "Exactly."
------------------
Bill: "How come no one thinks I'm funny?"
Lisa: "How come no one thinks I'm female?"
Bill: "We're misunderstood, I suppose. That's why guys like you and me gotta hang together."
------------------
This is a two-part question. 1. What does Lisa look like naked? And 2. What does Lisa feel like naked?"
------------------
"Is it getting chilly in here, or are you wearing an anatomically correct bra?"

Anyone else watch that DVD bonus I mentioned earlier? I'm eager to hear if anyone else thought it was even remotely as funny as I thought it was...

Wow, I totally missed your first post. I will check out my dvd set when I get home and hope I have the same easter egg.
I got the Office DVD set for Christmas, it has everything Season 1, Season 2 and the Christmas special all in one black case.. so hopefully it has the same features.

Dissapointing episode tonight. A couple laughts, but nowhere near as funny as the 1st. I'll watch it again next week, but not for much longer if it carries on like this.

I watched most of tonights episode and it just does not live up to the British version at all.
I thought there were funny moments but they seem very forced and were too far between.
Like Ag has said watch the British show. It is much funnier. Hopefully this version will not discourage people from viewing the British show.

Just be glad we have this show here. I can't think of any better comedy currently on the American airwaves. If people don't stop comparing it to the British version, then we'll have nothing left to watch but Joey.
Yes, it's not as good and it can't be helped. American sensibilities are simply not as funny but I've long been a giant Steve Carell fan.

Scrubs is, imo, the best comedy on TV right now. Others would say Arrested Development though

That's a tough call. Both shows are great but different kinds of humour.
Scrubs you can watch once and laugh at.......Arrested development you need to watch a few times to get the humour. Sometimes that show kills me other times it is average.

Arrested Development is pure hilarity, but you've got to watch a lot of the episodes in order, as a lot of the jokes run 3-4 episodes, and if you haven't watched them, you won't get it.

Last weeks Arrested Development was great.. the past few had been suffering, but there were so many good lines..
The housing development being cut from 22 to 18.. totally a cut on Fox reducing the show order from 22 to 18.
Dan Castalanetta as the doctor.. "D'oh?"
The towel on George Sr. head looking like a turban, then making an inspirational tape.. had me laughing my ass off..

I agree.
I haven't seen the British version, but the last scene where the boss can't just come out and say that he has no surprise seemed like it would have fit in....
That funny-yet-excruciatingly-drawn-out-discomfort feeling.

I think it stands up alright on it's own which I was not at all expecting though did expect Steve Carrall to be good. However, the whole show has been ok and some good laughs while straying from the orig. Think we'd like it more if there wasn't an original in the first place.
But still, Dwights character is nowhere near as funny or hateable as Garath's and I wondered if was the new era of US values that won't allow us to see the hilarity of the the investigation into who put the bosses head on porn and send it around the office. That had to be converted to the health plan which was a bit more belabored as humor (the anal fissures was a little forced I thought). I did laugh at the inverted penis though.
