"What's worse is that Boxee is unstable. It freezes. It crashes. Your cursor disappears sometimes, so you have to reset the box. I've used Logitech's Google TV box for a lot more hours, and I've pretty much never had to reset that one. I've had to hard reset Boxee about once an hour."

This is a great way to penetrate the home market. People love rebooting their home entertainment systems.

Hopefully they can sort out the software or hardware stability issues quickly. Competition in this space is important.

I bought the Boxee Box yesterday from Best Buy for $189 (price matched to Mem Express's Black Friday sale). Love it so far, used it for about 3 hours and enjoyed it.

Hook up was easy, the form factor while cool looking is irritating because it did not fit on the shelf so had to put it on the top shelf.

The UI is a little cutesy for my taste, I had used the boxee software for a bit, wish it looked like some of the slick interfaces they have for XMBC, but oh well. I don't know what the fuss about the 1.0 GUI is, it looks fine to me, miles ahead of other media streamers like Asus O!Play or WDTV Live (both of which I discarded because of poor UI)

The hook up to my local files on a WHS server was easy and then it scraped the content for me and created a library of movies for me. This is what made the device for me. It played high bit rate mkv's (25 gig files) with no problem and everything else in the library with ease.

The online content is a bit spotty for me because I like HD video and a lot of the online stuff is SD or lower. The VEVO channel is a winner and there are others that are interesting.

I like this device, the UI can be improved but overall I am happy with it.

I think that review is terrible. I've had my boxee since release date and it's been very solid.

I've never had any major problems, my cursor hasn't disappeared, it's never crashed, it's played everything I've thrown at it.

For playing local content on a TV and not wanting to build an HTPC, this is the best solution in my opinion.
