She is just trying to spearhead the haggard Russian woman look in America.

From the very beginning this case sounded a little fishy to me. I think it was the overplaying of the "amazing coincidence" that she'd just bought a pair of sunglasses and that saved her eyes. Our local media are pretty easily reeled in by a good story (see Kyron Horman) and there's a few cases of things like this every year. Definitely Munchausen syndrome. She got major press every day for over a week and
I bet all the people that fell for the slew of fundraisers for her feel pretty dumb now.
I guess now it's back to 25 minutes per news program of coverage of the Horman case...

She would have gotten a lot on the talk show circuit I imagine.

Hopefully they do a follow up story 40 years from now when she has to explain to her kids/grandkids how this happened.

There was a fair amount of speculation in the "alternative" local press that it was self-inflicted, so I wasn't really alone in my assumption, and the cops weren't really buying it either. But the local and even national news totally fell for it. Pretty deaf girl disfigured by horrible black girl! The ratings!

That totally looks like an ex of mine, she was equally as capable of doing this to herself. Mental illness is typically invisible based on appearance and can come and go. Sometimes the people with it have no clue there is even something wrong with them.

I'm gonna go ahead and basically say she's a victim. Nobody does this without serious mental health issues. It's just like a cutter. I hope she gets the help she needs. I'm not optimistic given the way the media will probably handle her.
Hope she has health insurance that covers mental illness.
At least we know there isn't some lunatic running around Vancouver WA with acid. Errr... more than one anyway...

I would agree with this, something is messed up here, its a cry for attention.
I hope she can get help, but that scarring won't go away anytime soon and she's going to be reminded of her actions everytime she looks in the mirror.
