Wasn't confrontational at all. Simply said I couldn't figure out why they were increase my cable bill when two other companies were breathing down my next to switch and offering stuff Shaw currently cannot. Asked if they could do anything for me and they simply said they would put me through to the cancellation department.

If you have a regular HDPVR (mine is like 3 years old). Will it work?

Woah, make sure to call back and ask to speak to someone in "customer retention". I have heard they have a "lose no customer" policy right now at Shaw, as they are in a huge price fight with TELUS.
I called them 2 months ago and asked what they had to compete with TELUS pricing. They transfered me over to customer retentions, and with no argument they slashed my bill from $145/mo to $85/month, plus gave me free NA long distance.
I have had 3 more friends do the same, with similar results.

Just a quick question. Are you guys swapping PVR's that you own or are renting from Shaw?

As far as I know the NFL Sunday ticket or the NHL don't broadcast in MPeg4, it's entirely the provider that decides what compression method they use. Of course Mpeg4 can handle more HD than mpeg2 so most providers are switching over or plan to. Right now they will do a few channels at a time, so they don't have to do a wholesale replacement of outdated receivers.
Bell has switched over to 8psk which is an upgraded compression system, so they replaced old HD receivers that couldn't handle it for free.
right now the new Bell 3D HD channel can only be received by the newer receivers capable of Mpeg4, so my guess is that they are using Mpeg4 for this channel and probably will be following the same course as Shaw for premium HD channels.

I just added cable again to my shaw Internet and phone, they gave me all three for 85 a month too, plus that included an upgrade to high speed express, free NA long distance, free HDPVR rental ( the new motorola), and a free permanent rental of a digital box for our little 19" tv. All of that is good for a year, all tv up to HD plus.

What channel is that?
What is the first Bell HDPVR that can decode Mpeg4?
Will my 9200 be able to do it with a firmware update? How about my 9242's?

The 3D channel is 1933.
The 6131, 6141, 9241 and 9242 can do Mpeg4.
The 6100 and 9200 can't even with a firmware update. Eventually Bell may do a free exchange like they did for the 6000 receiver if they change all their HD transponders to Mpeg4.

My Pace has been much, much more solid since the firmware update. The only bug it still seems to have is that sometimes it doesn't stop fast-forwarding/rewinding until you hit skip or go back. But there's no missed/failed recordings anymore.

Is there a new Pace box or is it the same one that's been around since last year that works with NFLST and NHLCI? I don't want to find out my Pace is going to be outdated already. I've had it less than a year.

Shaw Direct, aka old Starchoice, is run on a separate system for the most part. As a satellite providers, they have a lot more bandwidth to worth with and have less need for any better compression types.
I doubt they will be investing any time or money into deploying this on Shaw Direct for quite a while.

Reading up on from Redflagdeals. It appears the deal has changed, you must be a previous NFL Ticket subscriber to trade in your under warranty PVR for a Pace for free, or the Moto DCX3400 for $200.
It also appears they will do a similar program for Center Ice.
There are conflicting reports regarding your PVR having to be under warranty or not for it to be eligible.
