I've heard commits to the effect that Gates and others are just using their foundations as a tax shelter. They still have full control of their money and control of the foundation can be passed down to the next generation without penalty. As Director of your own foundation you can chose your own wages and expense account. Most of Bill Gates foundation money will still be found in the form of his own company's stock. He just no longer has to pay taxes on the profits.

And Bill Gates has given and will give far more out of his fortune than will ever go to taxes legitimately. Better for the individual to choose where his philanthropy goes, toward the causes he supports and sees a need in rather than the government.

Actually he shouldn't have to. Every investment he places under the unbrella of his foundation is non-taxable. The profits from those investments are also non-taxable. Plus no death tax and inheritance taxes on income sheltered by the foundation.

How the heck does one get away with not having a license plate?

So has his foundation decreased in net worth? Or is the charitable contributions reflective of only a part of investment profits?

It's not a demerit infraction, so he just pays the $250 fine (or whatever it is in California) and goes on his way. It's not like the car isn't registered with the DMV. Maybe he thinks he'll be followed around or something.

Now I'm more confused. Doesn't it have to be registered to a plate to be be registered?

You would think not having a plate would be more obvious than having one though.

Well that's just weird. You'd think something that completely negates photo-radar/red-light cameras would have a bigger consequence, especially for repeat offenders.

If I were Jobs and I really wanted to give as much money as possible to charity, then I wouldn't give money until I'd finished growing my business. Fundamentally Non-Profit organizations are not as efficient and will not use money as well as a private business in which a person is trying to make more money. So instead of donating $1mm each year for example, why not keep that $1mm in your business, reinvest at a larger % ROI, then 10 years down the road you'll have multiple times more than $1mm to donate.

lol really?

I mean yeah, those dirty rich mofo's are just tricking us, all the charity work is a scam to hide and allow themselves to move money around.

Have you seriously thought about what you just said?
