You can. I can call anyone I want. I just enter their number and ta-da!

Well, then, I guess I stand corrected.

There was some weird thing going on with 403 numbers and Google Voice. Before I completely capitulate, are you able to call non 403 numbers too?

I've called a Toronto number and a number in Texas. Seems to be working fine for me. Maybe they're doing a staged roll out in Canada.

Good to know. I just assumed this would be another one of those things that Canadians got hosed on.

If you call from your computer, what does does "Call Display" show on the other end?

The number that shows up is 760 705 8888 which is Escondido, CA number.

This is going to rock for prank calls.

This is a pretty cool feature, and the call quality is good. I hope there is a way to integrate it into phones.

Engadget had said it was only for landline numbers, but I guess it works for all phone numbers.

From the box that pops up when you click on it to install the plug-in:

How does this work?
You can now place calls to landline and mobile phones from within Gmail. Just dial any phone number and you’ll be connected

Over 1,000,000 calls placed in 24 hours according to the Google Twitter.

This feature is going to drive an insane amount of people to start using Gmail if they already aren't. And an even more insane amount of people to start integrating everything with Google Docs, just because of this feature.

but how many calls are legitimate calls, i made 4 calls just to test it out and hang up on myself.

I bet that of the 1 000 000 most of them are just people checking it out.

it will be interesting to see how this affects landlines in the home when google voice comes out so you have a number as well.
