This one depends on your perspective. This is by far the most heartbreaking moment in sports for me personally.
The setup. The last match of the English league season. Liverpool are in the driving seat to win another championship. Arsenal must beat them by two clear goals at Anfield to deny them and win the title themselves.
It does not get much more dramatic than this. Arsenal scored and were leading 1-0 going into injury time. Then with basically the last kick of the match Michael Thomas scored to make it 2-0 and win the Championship for the Arse. Great for the Gooner fans and neutrals quite likely, absolutely as heartbreaking as possible for Liverpool fans. This one still haunts me to this day. Ironically Michael Thomas became a Liverpool player later in his career.
Here's the video:
I'm not at all a Liverpool fan, but it's gotta be so frustrating to watch that as one. Every little bounce at the end there, every decision, is filled with 'if only he held that up in the corner' and thoughts like that.
Things like this are what make sports great, even if it makes them suck at the moment.
Pittsburgh @ Indy AFC Playoffs
Awful call goes against the Steelers, Colts next drive stalls though inside there own 10. Bettis hasn't fumbled all season, and does on the next play. Nick Harper only has to beat the freaking QB and for some reason cuts inside. Then Vanderjet misses the field goal by a mile to tie.
I could handle the lost to the Pats, playing in Foxboro in the snow against great patriots teams is fine, but the Steelers lost was easily the worst. The next week the Colts would've had the Broncos at home, and I don't think Jake Plummer would've stood a chance.
Blowing a 19-0, 2nd inning lead at slowpitch and losing 27-26 had me pretty livid last night. By far the worst blown lead of any team I've ever played on in any sport.
Throw in the Bruins blowing a 3-0 series and 3-0 game 7 lead this spring. That had to have Bruin fans in dispair.

So weird seeing the defenders passing the ball back to the keeper and the keeper picking it up. I definitely like the "new" rule that was implemented however long ago it was.
The pitcher who had his perfect game lost on a umpire error.
Or Pedro Martinez pitching a perfect game after nine innings. The first batter in the 10th gets a basehit off him. Expos did eventually win the game so he got a W out of it
Watching the Flames lose 3 game 7 OT's in the first round in 5 years('91-Edm, '94-Van, '95-SJ), all on Saddledome ice. All 3 were equally sickening.
91- the game after the Fleury slide, Flames blow 3-0 game 7 lead at home to lose in OT on a weird Tikkanen goal.
94- Flames blow 3-1 series lead, and lose games 5, 6 and 7 ALL in OT.
95- In OT, Flames clearing attempt stays in off ref Kerry Fraser's skate, and Whitney buries a tip to seal the deal for the heavy underdog Sharks.
Blech...
1990 was only 6 games but that was also in OT at the Great Western Forum. Defending Cup champs ousted in round one. That was the start of the first round chokes
