Already convicted and sentenced. Kudos to the cops who actually bothered to investigate and determine that there was enough evidence to charge and convict. Haha! to the punk driver. He should consider himself lucky that he's not in court for killing a kid.

I never said you can get a 06 M5 for under 5k. I was responding to a post that was asking why a 19 year old was driving a BMW not a 06 M5.

Really was just trying to say that not all BMW drivers are how people perceive them.

It could have been witnesses or a bust at a later date. This isn't based on his comments alone.

From the article:

That kicked off an investigation that culminated in the arrest of Rigenco on April 16.

Is there evidence that this kid actually did this? Could he not have denied it and said he was just BSing to impress the net?

Interesting legal implications from what I can see.

In which the judge would say "you do know you are under oath right?"

and he will then poop his pants and spill his guts out.

There better be corroborating evidence, otherwise this sets a dangerous precedent. A lot of people say a lot of stuff over the internet, and while I agree if the charges are serious enough, what's said over the internet should be admissible, but only if there is an investigation that yields evidence to support the charge.

Yeah right.

I only know what's in the article, but logic tells me that there was obviously a lot more to this than a BS bragging session online. As previously mentioned, there *must* have been complaints from residents. There was likely a few eyewitnesses that described the car and what happened.

In the article it says that the kid described in detail what he had done. One of the people that read it tipped off the cops, who assumably compared the eyewitness accounts to the accounts of the ###### that bragged about it. After figuring out the guy's identity and looking in DMV records, the cops probably saw that the guy had a car that matched the description.

C'mon, guys. Think about it. Do you really think the cops go and read a message board and then try to arrest people based on an online confession without some reasonable outside evidence? Sheesh.

Ok. Maybe people are responding before they read the article or any of the posts in this thread but there are no legal implications.

The Police launched an investigation based on the kids comments and it led to the charges being laid. They obviously found evidence that the kid was guilty.

I know a lot of us don't have much faith in Cops but do you really think they laid charges based on a single post on the internet? Seriously? Without even doing a little bit of investigation to see if the guy owned said car, lived in said community, asked residents of said community, busted this guy red handed by putting a few cop cars in his community etc.

There was an investigation and it did yield evidence to support the charge. No dangerous precedent, kid was guilty.

Helps when I read the article. I guess there must be supporting evidence or any lawyer with a pulse could have got the charges thrown out.

He probably took one look at the cop at the door and immediately spilled his guts. He's not the smartest can in the 6 pack, and the only reason you would:

A) drive that fast in a residential neighborhood
B) brag about it on the internet

is because you have some serious insecurity issues.

Agreed.

The guy pleaded guilty, so there must have been a real case against him.

Here's the thread. Pretty easy to see how he got caught. Just needed to find the old guy that witnessed it, and all he had to do was corroborate the claimed speed the guy posted. He deserves everything he got, and in my opinion should have got more. I am not about to admit the shenanigans I have partaken in on my Hayabusa, which is much faster than an M5, but I can assure you it has never been on a residential street, always a desolate country road. As contradictory as it sounds, There is a responsible way to be irresponsible if you own gonzo fast machines, and this guy crossed the line by putting others at serious risk.

Read through the whole thread and it gets juicy at page 22, thats when perhaps the greatest drive by post in internet history takes place:

Posted 14 April 2010 - 03:09 PM
Any witnesses that wish to come forward on Apple Blossom Drive, Vaughan about the dangerous operation of 2006 BMW M5S please contact Sergeant Morash, of York Regional Police, Community Response Unit at
581@yrp.ca

And he replies with this:

Maybe it was just a lie about going 140, so I can show off in the forums ( maybe its an option?) maybe I did not even get into an accident or it turned up in a different way. Chill ok? if you want to create problems PM we'll talk. Think about your family, your job etc.. dont put your nose into non of your business, you dont even know me..k?.. thanks.

Just ...... wow, the cop even identifies herself and he proceeds to threaten her family.

On the last page Mr. M5 returns after a 4 month absence, seemingly not caring at all about the implications. Apparantly he is bragging about his new infamy on facebook as well.

Some people do not learn..... period I guess.
