Geez, I thought it was the theatre we had been told about when we bought our house as well. Disappointing but I suppose it isn't that big of a deal to go to Chinook. I really thought that was the location intended for a theatre. Lowe's isn't terribly exciting.

That area has come along way since 2002. At that time they had Superstore, I think Canadian Tire might have been there, maybe Wal-Mart, don't know about Safeway, and Wendy's and Tim Horton's along with a few other random stores.
I can remember when it was just a field next to Superstore, where Home Depot is now. I worked at that Superstore since it opened, so I saw everything get put in up until 2008 when I quit.

It makes sense for them to do that, but a Best Buy or a Memory Express would have been nice to have. A lot of the time the Home Depot on 130th does not have what I am looking for. They usually tell me to go to the Home Depot in Shawnessy or Chinook. Same thing with the Canadian Tire. So I guess having a Lowes's might not be so bad. IIRC I thought Memory Express was suppose to have a store opening around there?

On a somewhat related note, what is the point of Best Buy opening their first Lethbridge store right across from Future Shop? Don't they own Future Shop?

They are widening that bridge at cranston ave/ seton blvd and they are building a hospital on the east side of deerfoot.

The thing is, most people either don't know that, or don't care. Putting the two together makes people say "Well let's head down to (whatever location) and compare between the two big electronics stores."
The prices will either be the same, or often one is a couple of dollars cheaper. In the end the big company gets the sale.

Some people don't realize that. I'm guessing that they figure they'll give the illusion of competition. It also practically ensures a sale at one store or the other - most people are not likely to then go to a third store.

personal;ly i like the HD at 130th - however that is likely because i know the layout of the store better than most employees. i am assuming that a lowes across the street from HD translates to a win win for us, the consumers as nothing ensures lower prices like competition.
it is my understanding that the reason the theatre has not gone in because once they build a theatre, the building is only good for one purpose - a theatre - so they need to be sure. i would also assume access in an out would be a gong show, thanks to that stupid access to superstre by can tire (48th ave or something).

That is exactly why they do that. They almost always put the Best Buy and Future Shops close to each other so that people end up comparison shopping between the same company. I'm actually surprised they put the latest Best Buy in Westhills rather than Shawnessy.

I hope they build another theatre so you deep south schmucks stay away from Chinook, Collesium (aka Empire 10) and Westhills. :-P

A good business idea for that area would be for someone especially towards Elgin, New Brighton, Copperfield would be for someone to open up a coin car wash I have seen that Co-op gas bar on Mcivor just lined up like crazy and people pay like 8 bucks for a crappy wash. IMO a coin car wash would make a killing in the area.

There's two practically next to each other just down the hill from the casino (114th st-ish?).
There's also a hand wash place behind HD.
They must be hard businesses to start up. One would do well there as most people don't know about the ones just north.

Not to mention the one at the Co-Op gas station on the south side of 130th. Car washes have reached their saturation point in this area I think. The news about the Lowe's is disappointing. The only other thing I can think of that I would like down on 130th would be a theatre, though to be fair, I probably would only use it 4-6 times per year so it's not a big deal to go to Chinook to annoy Redvan (though I will stay out of the left lane).

What someone needs to do is open up another tim hortons on the north side of 130th since the tim hortons on the south side is way at the back and lined up constantly

Does anyone know when the store plans to open? I'm assuming since it's just a skeleton structure it's not going to be until at least next year, but I have no idea.

Does anyone know of any plans to bring a hardware store to the west side?
There is nothing here but a mini-Rona in Westhills (Garbage).
Closest real option is the Home Depot at Stoney/Nose Hill

Ducay just move to the deep south so it is easier for me to take all your extra landscaping supplies and you won't have a problem of not having a home depot. Win win for everyone
