Keystone is OK. Not great, but if you don't care too much, then it's not a bad beer.
I think a lot of folks are beer snobs just because. I challenged myself to drink a bunch of "crappy" mass produced beer to see what I liked and didn't like, and so far the only thing that is absolute garbage is Molson Canadian.
Crap Beer:
Molson
OK Beer:
Coors Light
Keystone
Suprisingly Good:
Budweiser
Pilsner
Labatt Blue

CO-OP Classic Ale
Under $10 incl taxes and deposit for something ever so slightly more hoppy than Big Rock Traditional Ale. Yum!

Rickards White is delicious, but beer does not need fruit. Ever. Not even Corona.

Rickards White isn't all that good IMO. But I really don't care for the Belgian hefe. I much prefer Bavarian weissebier.

There is no such thing as cheap booze in Canada.
Pretty much everywhere I've travelled in the past 5 years has been cheaper. Eastern Europe is way cheaper, pints were the same price as water/juice at a restaurant. Europe in general had much, much cheaper wine. I bought a bottle in France for 2 or 3 euro and it was very drinkable, hard to find anything drinkable up here for less than $10. California seemed to sell stuff at about half the price we sell it for here and obviously Tequila in particularly is dirt cheap there as compared to here.
I've heard Sweden is bad for booze prices too.
Really I'm amazed that people can afford to drink in this country. When 2 pints of beer costs you the same amount that a good meal AND 2 pints of beer costs in the Czech Republic, something seems off.
I wonder if there is any sort of correlation between the number of weed smokers in Canada and the price of drinking. The high taxation on alcohol could be driving people to smoke weed instead, lol.

I guess its I really don't like Lager at all, except for that new Gopher from Big Rock. Same with Pilsners, just don't like them. But I really really like Ale.

$1 per can of Keystone or Co-Op Gold (Big Rock brew) is pretty cheap. Just not at a bar.
I think I paid $12 for one of the worst beers I've ever tasted in Sweden.

I dont know if it is the regular price but for the past few weeks Bridgeland Liquor store has been selling 15 can of Pabst Blue Ribbon for $22 all in. I had never tried it before but, being a cheap bugger, decided to buy some...and it is great! For that price you cannot go wrong, I bought another case a few days ago!

In my college days, Old Milwaukee was drinkable, if only because it was like $1/beer.
The hockey team drinks Lucky on occasion.
But those aren't something I'd enjoy just sitting at home watching the game drinking.
Having said that, I do prefer the finer beers, they're just so damn expensive.
Anything in the middle ground that could be recommended?

I can casually drink Brewhouse while watching a game. Give it a shot. About $16 for 12 at most liquors stores, and almost $1/beer if you buy it in bulk at Superstore. Fantastic beer for the price.

Well the sale is on at the Liquor depots. Crown Royal for 20 bucks!
But nothing beats Bow Valley beer. If the weather is hot enough you don't tend to notice

Disagree. I find that most mass produced beers are lagers that don't have much taste at all. I like a light beer like budweiser or kokanee after a hot day or playing hockey, but for pure enjoyment...well never.
The ales are where it is at, and it seems like you usually get better tasting ones (or just more taste at all) with the smaller micro brews because they appeal to a smaller market. Thus, the mass market ones usually aren't my first choice, though there are a few good ones amongst them.

has anyone ever had TNT beer? I assume it tastes terrible...but $11.99 for 15 is hella cheap! Perhaps beer bong/shotgun fodder.

Oh, and for cheap, good beer?
I'd recommend...wild rose for calgary stuff. Not the cheapest, but I do think they are a pretty good bargain for where they sit on my awesomeness/price spectrum.
