Ejection seats have an operating envelope in which you will come out with only minor trauma, sore back, some bruises. Forward speed and aoa are critical factors. When you get out of that envelope it's rare you won't have some injuries. Broken legs are not usually life threatening so in this case the seat did it's job. Low altitude and high speed and the pilot is going to be happy to just be alive.

I'd assume not, Azure... shame too cause that's always the highlight.

I'd be holding my breath on the airshow in general, depending where the wreckage is. If it's in the infield the military investigation team is going to want priority. You definately won't have an 18 flying there.

If the investigation is RIGHT at the airport, wouldn't the show be canceled?
Assuming a large section would be fenced off or whatever.
Too bad, because they were doing a huge simulation of Torra, Torra, Torra this year.

Depends on what happened. If the pilot screwed up he has probably already briefed the higher ups as to what he did wrong and they won't need to scour the site for a smoking gun. If the pilot say's it was a malfunction, they are going to go over the plane with a fine tooth comb and that is when your show is in jeopardy.

The crash occurred about 275 meters from the main terminal, just off a taxiway.
|
Was at the show a couple years ago and the amount of pyro and stuff TTT uses, there is no way they will be performing if the infield area is closed off.

Exactly what I thought.
Especially given the amount of people that walk RIGHT near where the crash apparently happened.
They should just reschedule it.

If it's outside the performers box they could just cordon it off.
Pretty near impossible to reschedule an airshow. the logistics and other commitments make it a go no go situation. All the players have schedules, just like a concert tour.

I hope it's not who I think it is because a certain F-18 pilot was supposed to make a stop in Nanton this weekend for a reunion . . . . tying that into the air show in Lethbridge would make sense.
Yikes.
If the old Penhold air show is any indication though, there would be several pilots there, along with ground crew.

Thankfully the pilot is okay. Hopefully the show isn't cancelled, but I can understand if it they need to.

This may/may not help you out.

Authorities have not released the pilot's name, but Meszaros said the pilot is attached to 3 Wing from CFB Bagotville in Quebec. The plane's crew is based in Cold Lake, Meszaros added.

So I heard he was doing that maneuver where they fly very slow, near stall speed, (if you've seen this in person you know it's remarkable) had just passed over the terminal and the thing just died and fell out of the sky. For this reason if they release the video I think it'll be somewhat anticlimactic.
Edit: Only a rumour at this point but I just heard the entire airshow is CANCELED. Ouch.

That's a pretty intact chunk of wreckage in that picture, which could correspond with the rumour of a crash from a low speed pass.
It would really suck if he lost an engine right at that point.

I hope I'm not too late...
So the RCAF has lost 33% of its active fighter planes?

Nice pics, that plane is right in the performers box. I doubt there will be a show.

At this point I have not got confirmation that the entire show is canceled. Fingers crossed.
