FedEx misplaced my $1500 soccer tickets and then found them just after Euro Cup concluded and they were useless.

In reality they wait until they have a shipload before setting sail. So that might be waiting until a shipping container is full to take that container to the dock; and waiting until the ship is full of containers before heading out. Or they could be taking the ship elsewhere to load or unload cargo. It is quite possible that ship went to the UK or even mainland Europe before heading north to Iceland.

I will agree that 4 months is way too long; but 1 week is also way to short of a time frame to expect something to arrive by ship.
Actually, I do a lot of international freight forwarding and ocean freight. I meant 1 week would be sailing time from Port at Halifax to Iceland, but yes, you are correct, the shipment would not leave port until the ship is ready to set sail. I've actually shipped trucks to Iceland, and the ships sail out every month. So max amount of waiting time is 1 month.

That was on Eimskip.

It's actually 9 days from Port at Halifax to Reykjavik.

I have no idea how Canada Post would ocean freight to Iceland, but I didn't think they would actually put it on a ship. I just assumed it would be air freighted.

So realistically, the maximum wait would be - 8 days ground freight from calgary to halifax, 1 month wait at halifax port, 9 days to Reykjavik, 5 days for delivery. 2 months max to deliver the package.

I've sent stuff there before on Canada Post and it's usually around a month.

Out of the big four delivery guys (Fedex, Purolator, UPS, Canada Post) I must say IMO UPS is the worst. At least they picked the right company colour as a metaphor for their crappy service.

Not sure where to ask this so thought I’d try this slightly bumped thread.

Anyone have their ups/purolator/fedex package stolen from their front step? I’m hearing it happens a lot. Do they take responsibility for stolen packages? Kind of makes me not want to buy online anymore if I’m just gonna have issues.

You should always get the signing option, then they can't (or at least aren't supposed to) leave it on your doorstep.

I had a package that was lost to 'internal theft' once. I assume that means the driver stole it, or someone at the sorting facility. The shipper sent me a replacement, but I have no idea if they were compensated or not.

I also had a package delivered to the wrong address. UPS claimed they delivered it because someone signed for it. When I asked the name, it didn't match up with anyone who worked for me, and it obviously wasn't me who signed. They refused to admit the mistake and I fought for a while, but eventually gave up as the item wasn't worth that much and fighting it was taking more time and effort than it was worth. Yet another reason why I refuse to use UPS. If a company only ships UPS, then they don't actually sell anything I need.

Bringing this back to your original question, I'm surprised more boxes aren't stolen from people's steps. I walk my dogs around almost every afternoon/night and there are tons of boxes sitting on peoples steps. Seems like a very easy target. Much easier than breaking into people's cars, and that happens all the time.

I find all the options in Canada just so horrendous. The new thing they are doing is delivering once to my work, holding at their depot for a few business days, and refusing to reroute to my work. The depots close at around 6, which is too early given my work.

Both FedEx and Purolator seem to operate this way. I had two items "delivered" to me while at work this way from within the same city. At what point do they make actual delivery so inconvenient that they are not doing anything?

I also find all the private companies horrendous with duty for international shipping. They get caught with duty every time and add their own fees.

I skip CP/USPS whenever possible. Slow but far fewer hickups.... But yes their ground service to anywhere but the USA is slow... Very slow.

anyone else use their CP FlexDelivery PO address extensively? I find it helps with the porch pirate paranoia.
