.300 hitter, .371 OBP, .443 SLG. Those are absolutely exceptional numbers for his position over an entire career and one of the best defensive 2B in the history of the game.

Position is one of those things you have to take into account with this guy.

I think because of his numbers at 2b that he will get in. If he were a 1B, OF or DH maybe not, but at second his numbers are pretty damn good if not great. He was the top secpnd baseman in the game for a number of years as well and that will count for something with the voters.

The baseball hall of fame has some weird guys in and some even bigger guys out but I think Alomar will eventually get in.

This is OT, but what about Bernie Williams? I am bias as he is my favorite player of all time, but now that his career is done so it seems does he get in? He holds records in the postseason for RBIs and HRs. He was the best player of the most recent Yankee Dynasty, Jeter wasn't as good overall during all of their series wins, and he is most definitely going in Monument park with other Yankee greats. He is an on the fence guy to most, but I see him getting in...

I would think that Williams would get in. He won a 4 gold gloves as a centre fielder on a championship calibre team, hit almost 300 in his career and played on a team who was in the post season for virtually his entire career. His power numbers aren't outstanding for an outfielder, but in his prime he was still a pretty productive 25-30 HR and 100-110 RBI guy while giving that gold glove defence. Overall his numbers aren't that different from a guy like say Robin Yount for example (although Yount broke in as a SS). A bit less in terms of longevity, but better overall numbers and of course a lot more post season success.

I don't think that Williams should get in but am not sure whether he will. To me he is the perfect example of it not be the hall of really good and sometimes great. It is the Hall of Fame. I don't think he was ever the best player on his team and certainly not at his position. To me he never was one of the top 5 guys in the league in any year.

He was a very good player who played on great teams and showed up big time in the post season but overall he was not good enough to get in to the Hall of FAME.

He certainly was the best on his team, who was better during the World Series wins? Yeah the last 6 seasons Jeter has been better but when the Yanks were winning it all he was the best plus he has all those post season records. The only centerfielder who was better in the 90's was Griffey Jr who is a sure fire hall of famer. Centerfield is arguably the hardest position in baseball and offense out of that position is a bonus...

Well one thing Williams will have working in his favor is that a lot of other guys from his Era have steroid questions surrounding them and the gawdy numbers they put up. Historically a 320 hitter with 30 home runs and 110 RBI who was a gold glove defender was a hell of a good player. During the juice era those were good numbers but you had lot's of guys knocking out 50 dingers a year. So when he does go up his first couple of times a lot of the recent guys he'll be against will have questions around their legitimacy. Williams to my knowlege has absolutely no allegations of cheating against him so that will work in his favor.

I wonder who will be in his class the same year. Alomar will probably get in, but it might be after a couple attempts - when the HOF class is weak for a year he might get the required votes.

I think he deserves a strong look - he had it all - gold gloves, almost a batting title in 1993 behind Olerud and Molitar, a .300+ career BA, 2 World Series Rings, nearlty 3000 hits, decent power.

My favorite memories of Alomar are him jogging to home plate doing the Braves' chop in 1992 World Series and that catch he made in 1993 against the Phillies where he went into shallow right field behind first base and dove - unreal. John Olerud was so slow he hadnt even turned around in time to see Alomar stretch out to catch it.
