I just picked one up at Superstore, you can get the version with 2 games (you get to pick the 2nd) for $385.00....this has got to be the neatest 'toy' I've had for years...play games, watch movies, listen to music....its very cool

it is so easy...you just plug the psp into your usb cable (not supplied), put the psp into usb mode, create a couple of folders via your computer.....and then simply drag and drop...there was no problems at all, except for having to shell out an extra $75 for a 256 mb stick

I would be all over one of these things in a heartbeat if they did the following things:

1) Incorporate a flash card instead of Sony's lame "memory stick" technology. Memory sticks are useless in anything but Sony equipment, and in this world of having multiple electronic devices with you when you travel having accessories like memory that you can swap between platforms is the ultimate goal. I'd love to be able to take my Canon DigReb, PSP, and laptop with me when I travel and have everything at my finger tips, able to move information between devices without doing anything more than moving the memory card. And no, using all Sony products is not the solution!

2) If they had a solution for burning information to the UMD. Again, I don't like proprietary technology and formats, but this one I could live with if they had a burner option. The fact that they don't, and likely won't, makes it unlikely that I would invest in the product. Ties me into a format that forces me to duplicate titles when I go on vacation or travel. No options p*sses me off.

3) Incorporated more memory. 32MB is pretty lame in this day and age, especially when you are saying that the device can be used for playing multimedia. How many people are going to be happy with 32MB of memory? That's not even half a dozen songs ripped at a decent listening level. More memory is good. Sony cheaped out.

It's a fantastic idea but it pure Sony. They have always been jerks when it comes to formats and buck against everyone else in an attempt to come off as superior. If they would start working with standards and stop trying to push their own proprietary crap they would sell a lot more product. Sony makes good stuff, but their nature makes me look elsewhere for products first. Unless their product is infinitely better and is something I can't live without I'll buy another manufacturer first. How many times can the public turn their backs after getting bit by formats like beta, DAT, mini-disc, ATRAC3, etc. before the company gets the hint?

I agree to a certain extent about the mem stick, but if you have a card reader/writer, its really not a big deal. The proprietory discs suck, but every game manufacturer has proprietory game media, so this isn't really new....the big drawback is that there are currently no burners for the UMD media...like you pointed out. I believe that if the demand is high enough, and there are enough psp units in the marketplace, that this will eventually happen. From a users perspective, I've had this thing for close to 2 days, and I absolutely love it......sure, there is the novelty factor, but I've already got it loaded with some pics, a couple or 3 music cd's.........the games look great and the video playback is freaking phenomenal. For the person who travels, or who has lots of idle time to kill, this thing is an absolute must. Sony is already releasing software that will ease the transition of mpeg or the like into the required format, there is a larger, secondary travel battery pack on the way etc etc. I tried out the wifi last night, and it worked like a charm. I played a multiplayer with friend while in different rooms, the wifi would also lend itself quite well to surfing the web (with a discussed firmware upgrade).

All in all, this thing rocks.......
