To be fair ... Cesc was with Barca as a youth for a long time, I don't blame them for wanting their guy to come home.
I'm thinking of buying GolTV this year to watch La Liga ... Setanta is just too much for only one channel.

I don't think anybody is faulting them for wanting him but rather their classless pursuit of him. It's one thing to show your appreciation and desire for a player but another to act disrespectfully and in a pompous fashion with the intention of destabilizing the said, and contracted, player. To be honest, quite a few Arsenal supporters that I have talked to, as early as May, resigned to the fact that he was going to leave and had no resentment. Then Joan and Xavi started to open their big mouths.

You're really upset that his Spain teammates are clowning around about him coming to play with them?
It's not that big of a deal.

By itself, probably not. However, combined with everything else...

its the norm though for every major club in the world
Chelsea have done it with countless players
Man U did it with Berbatov
Real Madrid did it with Ronaldo
etc.

The way Barcelona has gone about it is a big deal and very disrespectful IMO. I understand them wanting him, but he's a player under contract and they should respect that.
Make their bids professionally and privately to Arsenal and if they get him, fair enough.
Trying to create a giant media storm and trying to tempt him in so many different ways is very unprofessional. Soccer media would do this enough on their own, the club shouldn't be encouraging it.
Also, their attitude of entitlement to him because he's from their youth system is complete BS. They sold him fair and square and he became the player he is at Arsenal.
It's like the Flames trying to claim they should get St. Louis back cheep because he came through our system and we let him go.

Nice to see teams are making Man City pay a premium if they want players, http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2...ity-edin-dzeko
Dzeko is good but nowhere near worth 45m pounds
and Milner is versatile and a hard worker, but as the poor mans Darren Fletcher he isn't worth 30m

Oh yeah, I know public courting has become the norm but aside from the Ronaldo saga I haven't seen much of the 'unsettling' tactics that Barca have been using this summer. Barca and Real have really taken things to the next level. I know they have a strong rivalry and like to out-shine each other, but trying to be the biggest twat?

It definitely is more the way it has all been portrayed. Every week there is a new article with a Barca player (today is Iniesta). Wenger has made it very clear he will not go into negotiations. The Barca prez goes out to the media and says he is being "bullied" to pay in excess of $50 mill pounds, Wenger quietly reinforces that he has declined any negotiations with Barca and will not have any discussions, Fabregas is not for sale. I don't believe at any point has Fabregas come out to say I wish to leave, he desires to be back there someday certainly but he will respect his contract and Arsene because he has a great deal of respect for him and what he has done for him. I just wish Barca would shut up, I'm seriously waiting for Sergio Ramos to say Fabregas should go to Barca because he yearns for an ass whooping courtesy of Cesc.

Some news:
Iker Casillas hints at Real Madrid move for A.Cole.
Quote:
Ashley Cole is set for a reunion with former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho in a £30 million move to Real Madrid, goalkeeper Iker Casillas has reportedly claimed.
Casillas said Cole is the "best left back in the world" and that the appeal of a "clean break" from England and a massive contract offer should be enough to tempt Cole away from Stamford Bridge. Cole, 29, reportedly told friends he "hates" life as a footballer in England after their disappointing World Cup campaign, and he recently separated from wife Cheryl, sparking speculation he could seek a fresh start abroad which now appears to coming to fruition.
Ashley Cole didn't have the best of World Cups
|
Best Left back in the world my ass. England clearly learned absolutely jack all from the World Cup evidently. Ashley 'Best Left Back in the World' Cole should be watching game tape of Philip Lahm 'Clockwork Orange' style.
Can Ashley 'Turncoat' Cole keep turning tail and running? Only time (and money) will tell!
http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/st...nsfers&cc=5901
Dont say Lahm is a right back. He plays right for Germany and left for Bayern, hes the best at both.
Harry Redknapp may indeed, not be totally insane.
http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/st...nsfers&cc=5901
Spurs fans are praying that someone made this up. Bellamy is alright, but SWP? After the spectacular World Cup he had? Pass.
Pompey could face Points Penalty should Taxman appeal
Quote:
It has also been reported that HMRC is contesting the amount Portsmouth claim to owe, believing the debt to be £34 million and not £27 million as detailed in the club's accounts. The figure in the accounts enabled Pompey to agree the CVA, but if the figure is £34 million then HMRC hold more than 25% of the club's debt, meaning they can veto any CVA.
It appears highly unlikely HMRC would ever be offered more than 20p in the pound, making the aims of their appeal confusing. A 17-point deduction would make the club even more unattractive to prospective buyers, placing the club's future once more in doubt. If the club goes bust then HMRC would be left with nothing.

17 Points? Wow.
And, news from MLS: Thierry Henry signed by NY Red Bulls and Ryan Giggs not ruling out ending his career in MLS. Thus making the MLS everyone's new favourite retirement league and further bringing down the quality of play.

An unrelated story, an Australian co-worker of mine was telling us a story the other day that in Australian rugby, one of the teams was caught cheating and going over the salary cap, they got docked all the points they had gained so far and were not allowed to gain anymore points win or lose to ensure they would finish the season at ZERO!
That's insane.

I still think we're going to get Joe Cole, which would be huge. Spurs would have arguably one of the deepest midfields in England if that happened.
If Woodgate can get healthy, and BAE return to the form he was in during the fall of last year, we'll be looking good on the backend as well. Still wouldn't mind adding another decent fullback to the mix, but the big need is to add a top notch striker.

Official now, City sign Silva
Quote:
MANCHESTER, United Kingdom — Spain winger David Silva has completed his move from Valencia to Manchester City.
Silva, part of Spain's World Cup-winning squad, successfully underwent a medical on Wednesday before signing a four-year contract with City, which will play in the Europa League next season.
City paid Valencia 24 million pounds (C$37.8 million) for the 24-year-old, according to the Premier League's official website, in a transfer that was announced while he was on World Cup duty.
Silva was a bit-part player for Spain in the tournament in South Africa, but was an integral member of the team that won the 2008 European Championship in Austria/Switzerland.
Silva said Wednesday he wanted to help qualify City for the Champions League.

Poor mans Darren Fletcher? No. Just no. He's not worth 30m, I agree but to say he's a poor mans Fletcher is ridiculous.
