As a rule, no.

I mean you can try, but first of all you have to tie it right. Second of all you have to have the right face, colors etc to begin with.

Bow ties only work when they are with a tux or a sweater over the dress shirt. And can only be used in those instances if you are one particular type of guy.

That is the guy who's friends are scared shytless to have said friend meet their mother or sister.

Black bow ties with a tux (like Bond) are acceptable, but to pull off a bow-tie of another colour or with another outfit is almost impossible.

actually the guy in the gray sweater and maroon bow tie pulls it off quite well.. I like that look....

how about trying one of these:
an ascot... I just had to wear one if a friend's wedding.. I thought they were pretty cool and old school.. this isnt me btw LOL!
