I really don't know anything about the scheduelling of University, so I just assumed it was 2 months. and secondly I personally don't see any reason why a corporation would hire for just a matter of a few months. Unless it's an internship.

I realize you haven't gone the post-secondary school route (yet?) but surely you must have friends or family or someone you know that has gone. I find it strange that someone who has been out of high school for a couple years wouldn't know that information. Even if you didn't go, someone you know must have.

Have you tried http://www.calgaryjobshop.ca They usually post seasonal/summer jobs. It is where I found one summer job two years ago.
UofC/Sait/Mount Royal usually their own job posting. If you walk around campus you should be able to find many things posted all over the place.

Good points... I will admit I am green when it comes to post secondary type stuff. I'm only JUST getting into it next fall going to SAIT after working a year at Superwhore, and a couple of years as a work from home Web developer since I graduated High School.
|
Well, at least you're pretty much guaranteed a job with a SAIT diploma, the envy of poor unemployed UofC grads everywhere... [/b][/quote]
Exactly why i'm going... my brother took a 6 month SAIT course and he's making damn good pay. Even if I don't get a job off the bat, the skills I will learn from my course combined with my ability to make money from home will give me income when my course is over.

One of the best summer's of work I ever had was as a Casual Labourer for Hire a Student. People basically hire you for odd jobs. The nice part is, the salary is usually 8-14 bucks an hour, and you're _always_ paid in cash, often at the end of each day (maybe personal cheque). W/ no taxes, you can add 1-4 bucks an hour onto that wage and call that your 'gross', which can be substantial.
Often the temporary work you're assigned turns into a full-time gig, if you want it to.
I planted about a million flowers at some Garden-funeral Chapel. I got to see Davy Boy Smith's body before the funeral... he's a big guy. I also renovated a house (with no experience/skill).

For sure, if your single goal is to learn work-skills, SAIT is the route to go. Of course, if you believe that post-secondary education has anything else to offer, aside from essential technical skills, then University is probably something that should be explored.
Hell, if I'd gone to SAIT, I'd probably still be voting Conservative (shudder).

I like SAIT because everything is practical and specialized. Which is exactly what i'm looking for when it comes to post secondary education. I don't need Greek mythology or any of that nonsense.

Lol, because Greek mythology is _mandatory_ for all students. Not to mention all those damn etiquette and good-grace classes.

Well, I didn't say there was full-accounting for taste.
I wouldn't waste my vote on either party, I voted Green in the last election.

The Greens seems to be popular around post-secondary campuses because it's mostly people in our age group running as candidates, but honestly I really don't see the point as it will be a cold day in Cancun before any of them get voted into office, especially in Calgary.

I voted for them because everything else on the ballot was a joke. Liberal, Conservative, NDP.. blah, sick. I went with green because they get cold hard cash with each vote them obtain.

Me too. I got my Econ degree and all my Econ professors were totally right wing, espeically Dr.Atkins.
If it wasn't for the U, I would probably follow the majority of Canada and vote (ugh) the Liberals

Yeah that's the reason I did as well. I also liked their platform and hell, they can't be any more crooked than the Liberals or the Conservatives.
Also, I seriously doubt the Greens would ever take part in such a gratuitous thread hijacking that has gone on here.

As said earlier its landscaping, painting, and Safeway.
I used to try that all the time, and never got far.

I already set up some appointments at the career services, so I think I am well on my way.
Calgary Flames, no worries man. Good luck at Sait next year, it is a great school. Lots of people I worked with last summer went there, and they actually enjoyed their school- something I can't say as a U of C student.
But I am still looking for more ideas, cause I only get about a 10% respond rate to all my sent out resumes!
