Really? I find Northern Ontario excruciating.

Best thing about Toronto??? its that two great people I know live there, Cheese and Hello Hockey Fans.
As a person that visited this city a while back, a good while actually, its that it really is a world class city. My opinion of Toronto changed dramatically when I saw it. Its a cool cool place.
Calgary's still better but Toronto is a great second.

I lived there for three years. Enjoyed it a lot. Experience all it has to offer.
I drove both through Canada and US and the latter is BY FAR the more enjoyable drive.

I have only done the trip once and found it pretty interesting. The drive along Lake Superior is pretty nice. Lake of the Woods. The geography is different then what we have around here.
Though I also like the drive from Calgary to Saskatoon with the nice flat acres of wheat and canola.

as an aside - i beleive that moving for a job if the move is beyond a certain 3 of km's is tax credit/deduction - both time i moved cross country i had a moving allowance. i would not want to do a x-country move in a u-haul.
to me TO is a great city with the exception of the over the top Leafs coverage/speculation.

Thanks guys, but I don't think I'll uhaul it. I don't have that much time. Looking at movers now, or I might just greyhound it since we have no furniture, just boxes to ship

We have done u-haul, we have done ourselves, we have done friends, and on our last move we did actual movers. Well worth it in my opinion.
And if you are now the feds, did you by chance get a moving amount of $$ or?
And welcome, by the way, what Department ?

CIHI, not directly the feds, but funded by Health Canada as an independent agency
No relocation program though, but tax free is nice

I'm heading down the Toronto way myself, and found that TekSavvy was a good choice. They're really expanding their Cable Internet service in the greater Toronto area, but have phone and DSL in most areas already. Saw they are going to be offering Cable Internet in Calgary by October too, so it may not only be a choice for the Ontarians in the crowd.
Big thing for me was the change in Car Insurance... same company, got a quote with just changing our address, and my insurance (2 cars) went up $1500/yr. Add to that the $2000+ in extra property insurance, plus more, and it could be a pricey move.

welcome. Make friends with someone who has a summer place up north.
- I recommend moving close to downtown. Annex area is great, Queen west is "cool". I used to commute from Queen/King west to North York. I enjoyed the subway ride north, as you always have a seat and you can read the paper. Live in the city so you can enjoy it. Yonge/Eglinton area is a bit "stale"/"boring"
- I have TekSavvy. Cheaper and supporting the little guy.

Just a quick bump
Thanks for all the advice CP. Made it into Toronto last night. Most of my stuff arrived intact from Greyhound. Just waiting for UPS to deliver my computer today
The humidity here is brutal right now
