And- a couple of my friends have Toyota Matrixes. They love that all the seats (except for the driver) fold flat, but both have said the car has no jam. If you need to clear an intersection or something, you hit the gas and there's nothing there. Maybe they drive like geezers or something, but it's something to consider.

Could be wrong, but I think there are two engine choices.

I had a 2005 Vibe. Tranny went after 60,000kms. Up until the 2009's they were gutless unless you bout the sport version, which was only 2wd and used premium fuel. It was roomy, but I had problem after problem with it.

Between your choices I'd go with the Subie. A buddy of mine has a forrester and loves it. I test drove a 2010 turbo and man to they have some get up and go.

Also, the Mazda 3 wagons are great.

I have an 05 forester xt and it's awesome...there is a Legacy GT on repo.com MT that looks pretty reasonable. Gt's with a mt are rare.

Yeah I have to say Subaru's are probably the best of the bunch right now. Solid reliable cars and their value holds

I have always been interested in a Subaru but their gas mileage has been holding me back. Me and my wife both drive alot of km's and we just can't justify the extra gas we would be using. Would love to drive one though, maybe one day.......

Thanks for all the replies. I'm leaning towards a Subaru Legacy or Outback with the 2.5 engine. Followed closely by a Forester.

As an owner of an 06 Mazda Sportwagon with the SportShift 6 speed automatic, I must say the car is A LOT of fun to drive. It GOES, it corners well, and it's very roomy. On the highway it's decent on gas too. Took a big road trip down the Washington coast and into Oregon a bit, and it was very enjoyable. Drawbacks - no towing (many many Mazda's don't tow and it will void your warranty if you do), without winter tires it will get stuck on heavily snowed site streets (but with snow tires it is a blast to drive in the winter), and I'm not a fan of Mazda service (personal opinion).

I believe if you got with a Forrester XT you have to run premium fuel in it, which will add up. If someone knows this is not the case, feel free to correct me. I've always been a fan of Subarus, but they do have a bit of a premium, cost wise.

That's my 2 cents.
