No Earthquake in Calgary.

We did have a tremor in Calgary, once that I remember.

It was either 1982 or 83. My daughter was in her high chair and I was feeding her. The chair tipped back and then forth again, ever so slightly. At first I thought she had pushed on the table with her foot, but she wasn't within reach.

Later when I got to work, those who were there early, said that the whole building had noticably swayed.

I was in an earthquake in Anaheim once. It was a 6.1 but the epicenter was very far away from us. Still a nervous minute and a half being on the 9th floor of a 20 odd story hotel.

This was before LA had their big one as well, so all the news stations were speculating if this was simply the pre-tremors to The Big One. It's the first time I remember realizing just how different US news was compared to ours.

After that night I really didn't give it a second thought as far as safety was concerned. Just a cool story.

But yeah no quakes, no floods, ho hurricanes here. Probably one of the safest areas in the world when it comes to natural disasters. It's possible we could get a tornado, and I have seen one close by (it was very small, about half way to Red Deer) plus the occasional funnel cloud. But we even seem to manage to dodge those in the city proper.

Last time I felt an earthquake I was sleeping. It woke me up and it was probably the worst feeling ever. You have no control of what is going on but luckily it was a small one and ended quickly but I almost had to change my bed sheets after that.

One thing I'm not looking forward to is the big one to hit the West coast. I have a feeling this little island won't hold up much.

they've been saying "the big one is coming!" for 20 or 30 years now, i doubt it'll happen in our lifetime

They used to do them in North Vancouver during my elementary classes.

I left before high school so after that I do not know.

They have been saying that because evidence suggests on average it happens every 500 years, the last one being in 1700. But that will be a small blip on the radar compared to Yellowstone which blows every 600,000 years and it's last eruption was 640,000 years...although they have proof of only 3 past eruptions..which is a small sample size.
