This crap was so situational...... Which makes it even harder. I bought it from a dealer, and I was vigilant with my mom who went with me to get it from Brooks, and the dealer if I needed insurance and they both said you dont have to worry about it for 14 days..... This whole situation pisses me off because I should have trusted my gut instinct.
I suppose the other part that annoyed me about the whole thing was the fact that she followed me home.... Like watched me into the community and all. I understand its probably part of her job, but seriously...

Thats my plan....

Teaches me for posting before a coffee. I completely mis-read the fine - pay it and run away.

Just for fun go back to the dealer and ask them to reinburse you for the fine. Either way tell them they are idiots

That's not the cops problem, thats the dealers and your problem. You should phone the dealership, they won't do anything at all, but they gave you bad information.

And of course she followed you home, you were driving without insurance and a valid registration and it sounds like you could barely drive the damn car. If you had been in an accident and it turned out that she had let you go, then she's in a world of hurt.

I wouldn't fight it, a judge might get pissed off at the stupidity of it and enforce the fine. Its too bad that he can't put the seizure of the vehicle and the 3000 dollar fine in place if you did fight it. The laws not the problem here, nor is the cop, the dealership is and you are.

Seriously you should send the cop a nice box of candy.

I don't think so, this wasn't a moving type violation.

i live in the USA, so insurance may be different down here. Bought a new car recently, trading in my old car. The insurance from the old car automatically became the policy for the new car. The dealer and my insurance agent said this was standard

bought the car on a friday; the dealer said my old insurance was fine. Sceptical, I still drove it off the lot, and that weekend; called my insurance agent on the monday and he concurred; I was legally driving with insurance for that weekend since it automatically switches, according to my policy

Without you informing them, and without rate change?

How does that work.

does that mean that if you were driving a 1972 dodge dart and bought a 2010 Audi a10 it would just automatically switch over and adjust your rate without your intervention.

That's never been the case for me down here either. I have to call my insurance company and report my new car so they can modify my policy. Depending on the type of car my rates do fluctuate slightly up or down. My insurance will cover my new car for a specified period (which I don't know off the top of my head) but I always notify them the next business day and get it taken care of. I've never purchased a car private party so the dealership has always handled the registration part for me.

yeah, I wondered about that as well; (speculating) if you have just PL/PD, then it doesn't make a difference. If you have comp. and collision, the coverage is just for the value of the old car until you notify the insurance company of your new vehicle.

Please. Phone your insurance company and ask them. If you don't do that after this lesson then it is your fault if you have a problem.

You have 14 days to switch insurance to a newly acquired vehicle. There are conditions such as all of your vehicles have to be insured with the same company. And the coverage that is transferred to the new vehicle is the lowest coverage you have for your vehicles. If she gave you the $3,000 ticket you go to your insurance company and ask for a no insurance ticket letter. They will issue the letter if it meets the criteria for a newly acquired vehicle. The $157 you got is the same as if you left you pink cards at home.

You should have told her that you are a human being and not a Person and refuse to give your identity and ask if answering her questions is entering into a Admiralty contract and that you live under Common Law and were operating your conveyance not Driving a Motor Vehicle and that it's an Act not a law and that you do not consent to be governed and you are not a member of the society governed by the Acts and subsisting regulations, orders and bylaws.

You should have also told her you claim that your FEE SCHEDULE for any transgressions by peace officers, government principals or agents or justice system participants is TWO HUNDRED DOLLARS PER HOUR or portion thereof if being questioned, interrogated or in any way detained, harassed or otherwise regulated and TWO THOUSAND DOLLARS PER HOUR or portion thereof if you are handcuffed, transported, incarcerated or subjected to any adjudication process without my express written and Notarized consent.

Then post here what happens

I got one of those failure to produce tickets when my pink car had been expired for 3 days. I think it was less than $100 and I could have got a speeding ticket as well but the cop just gave me that.
