I typically don't like to install 'Extra' software onto my machines.

Now they just need to remove the annoying "Change background image" link on the bottom left.

Yeah, I see what you mean. It's really just a different perspective, but you can really get a better feel of an area that way.
Nice, thanks for the tip.

yeah, i enjoy the angled view. not quite the bland 8 miles above the earth pictures. additionally, they have that detailed view for pretty much everywhere i have ever needed to look. often times google doesn't have the super high resolution for smaller communities.

Bing has advertisements so I will never use it. I just checked their aerial maps and they aren't better than google, they actually look the same but are more out of date.
Google was innovative in coming up with their no advertisements, free maps, streetview etc etc etc none of which bing would ever give us for free had it not been for google.
So I will remain loyal to google.

just because it was me that really brought it up, it should be noted i was referring to their 'birds eye' view that is quite different than the typical aerial view.

I use it as the main page that pops up when I open a new tab so when I want to initiate a new search I don't need to use my mouse. What sucks is when Google loads a giant picture in the background and my tab takes .5 seconds longer to open up. It's minimal, but it's very very noticeable.

I'm not sure you really get what kind of a company Google is. They offer these awesome applications to you in exchange for collecting your data so that they can target ads directly to you. Hell, there's even sponsored links directly in Google maps:

I don't mind so long as I don't see the ads. It's not intrusive and it doesn't affect my surfing experience or cut my screen in half because of all the ads.
Actually if they are collecting data about my interests then it actually makes my life easier when I'm trying to do work or get info. So even better.

Actually there are ads in the maps section and in gmail... In the maps check at the bottom of the map (sometimes a very thin bar at the bottom), or on the left above the search results.
In gmail in the bar above the line with "Back to Inbox" when viewing an email, and on the right side when viewing an email.

No that's not till I post 250 posts in the same thread.
Ok Photon in Gmail you are right. Does have ads theres no question along the right side but only when you open an email. Maps, I found one tiny one in the bottom corner. Definitely not intrusive at all.
Ads are limited and google is free. Microsoft would have never come up with that.
