I think it all means the same thing. Ultimately, the plane crash woke him up and he started to re-examine his life. He left Apple, got married, went back to college and got his degree... etc.

He went back to Apple for a few years afterward before leaving permanently, but he's been on the payroll and listed as an official employee since April Fools in 1976.
That is completely different and nothing to do with mental illness or being nuts as you claimed. Just memory loss and life changing event causing him to re-examing priorities.

A lot of these genius' have some kind of mental illness or disability though. Bill Gates himself has never said so publically but has been observed to actually suffer from very obvious symptoms of autism such rocking movements.

Huh?

When I said he went a little nuts, I didn't mean he went crazy. I meant he got a little too big for himself. He started doing crazy (for him) things like buying airplanes and trying to fly them.

Other than the short-term amnesia from the plane crash, I didn't say anything about any other mental state. "He went a little nuts" is a pretty common description, and isn't usually used to indicate an actual diagnosed condition. In fact, I doubt you'll find "A Little Nuts" in any Psych Journal.

Edit: If you want to get super-anal about everything, I'm pretty sure I can dig up a quote from Woz himself, in which he calls some of the things he did back then "a little nuts." That should absolve me from all kinds of further back-and-forth on this topic.

Come on, man.

sclitheroe inferred mental issues from you post too, I was more responding to that and was reading from that, I apologize if I misinterpreted your post.

Here's Bill gates displaying common signs of autism

Fast-forward to the 6:00 mark.

(Not related: "A computer guy with memory problems." Haha.)

I believe the accident was actually caused by his girlfriend unintentionally bumping the throttle or something like that. The book alludes to many of his cohorts not being great pilots either; it sounded like a bit of a gong show overall.

Ultimately though, he's an engineer and tinkerer at heart, and his time away from Apple helped him realize he wasn't all that happy at work. You definitely get the impression that he's pretty far out there in how he thinks and works, so it's not surprising his voice was somewhat marginalized as Apple became increasingly mainstream during those years.

Yeah, exactly.

I'm pretty sure (if memory serves) I read something about him not even having any flight training or certification either. He just suddenly had a pile of money and thought it would be fun to buy a plane and try to fly it.
