Most people don't know how to configure power options. They simply shut down as there is usually no sleep in the start menu. There is often no sleep button on the keyboard. They have no idea what the difference between sleep and hibernate is (save state to ram vs. save state to harddrive). They don't know how to configure the sleep function to do what is most effective for them (time to sleep, close lid to sleep, press button to sleep, etc). They don't know you can set the physical power button to automatically set your computer to sleep/hibernate instead of shut-down. They don't know how to operate their power profiles and what each means, etc.
