Lewis and Howard are signed through 2012/13.
Next year Lewis is making $20.5, Carter $17.3, and Howard $16.5. That's a combined $54.3 for those three guys.
Carter's contract is expiring in 2011, so it is tradeable.

Lebron, Wade, Bosh, Johnson, Amare, and Nowitzki should just buy the Clippers and become player owners.

Ok sweet, thanks. What's the max contract in the NBA that Lebron will be looking for?

You'd have to dump Carter in order to even come close to having enough money for James. However, his terrible playoff performance really didn't help his stock. He is a huge expiring contract though, so it would be interesting to see if someone would take him. Lewis is almost untradeable, because although he contributes, he really didn't deserve that max deal. I hated the deal several years ago, and it only became decent when he fit into the system and produced at a very high rate.
One contract the Magic can get rid of via trade is either Bass or Gortat (~3.5M each), which saves a bunch of money. Barnes and Redick are both FA's so if you're going to make a push for James, both would probably be too expensive to re-sign, as both of their stock went up significantly.
Obviously a James-Howard combo would be a dynasty much like Kobe-Shaq, but I don't see it happening. I also don't see James wanting to win that much that he will go to a small-market town like Orlando where he has no ties. I've also railed on James' attitude and arrogance so much, that I'm not sure if I'll be able to cheer for him (though, as we saw with Bertuzzi, him being on your team changes everything).
I still think James is going to stay in Cleveland.

I'm not a cap expert, but
If LeBron stays in Cleveland, his contract will be about 6 years, $130-140 million.
If he signs with another team, it'll be 5 years, $105-115 million.

Raptors have reportedly hired PJ Carlesimo as an assistant coach.
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=5236564
Great move. A guy with experience, authority, and some serious defensive credentials, and very much a student of Gregg Poppovich. Also, you know he's not going to take any crap from any of the players. I'd like to see him and Triano flip-flopped after a season.

I'd like to see him in a head-coaching position too. There are two problems that could arise from this: 1) A conflict arising between himself and Triano as he has more of a dominant personality than the guy but is in a more supporting role (much like Kevin O'Neill or Butch Carter were to Glen Grunwald); 2) Luring FA's to Toronto knowing that they now have a coach who'll kick and scream without putting up with crap. I do like the move though, I'm just not so sure about the roll longer term. I don't think the country club atmosphere with bending over backwards for every player, could've been done again this year. It's a step in the right direction.

Okay so excuse my lack of knowledge towards the NBA cap but is there any chance Lebron could sign in New Jersey? I'd imagine getting the #1 overall pick kind've handicaps that from happening? The Jay-Z connection there, close to NYC, and with Harris and Lopez already there. Just something that crossed my mind today

Yes, there is a decent chance he could sign in NJ. The #1 overall pick has no effect on the cap structure. NJ is one of the teams that have been clearing cap space for this coming offseason.
As mentioned in this thread, the biggest reason for players to stay with their own team is that they can offer more money and an extra year than other teams can offer. As was mentioned before, a lot of teams will do sign and trades, where, for example, Cleveland will sign Lebron to the hometown max deal, then trade him for assets rather than losing him for free.

Amare Stoudemire following in Chris Bosh's footsteps goes onto twitter today and asks if his fans think he should stay in Phoenix or not? Gotta love NBA players

First trade of the offseason: Dalembert to Sacramento for Nocioni and Hawes.

I always though Dalembert was underrated as a pure centre. Nocioni and Hawes are bench players and strictly based on the best player dealt, Sacramento wins this one.

I don't see it. Their roster is shaping up really nicely with three solid bigs in Landry, Dalembert and Thompson (plus another top PF in this draft, probably), good young wings in Greene, Casspi, and Evans. If anything, they'd probably like to upgrade the PG. But bringing in a ball-heavy wing like Turkoglu would take away from running their offense through Evans. My money is still on the Clippers as a destination for Turk.

I wouldn't mind that at all. If Dalembert can stay healthy, he's pretty solid blocking force (not a long term guy though obviously). Doubt this type of deal would go down now though simply because I think they'd have announced it all at once rather than Sacramento saying Dalembert is part of their plans and then a few days later dealing the guy. Unless Evans comes back Toronto's way (and no chance that happens), I don't see how the Raps are a good trading partner with Sacramento. Come to think of it, I don't think Sacramento's a good trading partner with any team.

The Score is carrying the draft live at 5.
As for draft day rumors. Nothing major has happened just yet. Wall, Turner will go 1-2. NJ looks to be taking Favors at 3. Lots of jockeying for picks after that.
Raptors are rumored to be talking with Portland about trading down from 13 to #22 and getting Rudy Fernandez.
The big name that has recently been floating around is Chris Paul. I seriously doubt he gets moved.. but who knows.

Awesome, thanks for the tip about the Score!
Last I heard, the owner squashed the whole Chris Paul thing. The Hornets would have to be crazy to move him. He has the potential to be even better than Nash was in his prime... if he can ever stay healthy, that is.
I'm watching for news on Dirk and Amare. I'd love to see a Dirk/Nash reunion, but I'd also be sad to see Amare go. I wasn't big on him in the begining, but he's really grown on me since coming back from knee surgery two (three?) years ago.

From what I understand the Paul speculation had more to do with the fact that the NO ownership was leaking money. There were a ton of rumors that teams were lining up for Paul as they could use that as a chip to lure LBJ. NJ was considered a potential player there... but I can't see NO making a deal. Despite his contract... Paul is that franchise right now.
As a suns fan too.. definitley waiting to see what happens with Amare. Even though Dirk/Amare aren't directly linked to the whole LBJ/Wade/Bosh cohort.. I still think what happens with them will get settled once James figures out what he wants to do. I hate the whole 'once the dominoes' fall theory.. but I think that's exactly what's going to happen here. Once Lebron figures out what he wants to do.. you'll see the others sort themselves out.
Personally I think Dirk resigns in Dallas quickly unless Cuban makes a heavy move for one of the big name guys. Not sure on Amare.. I'd like to think he'd realize that Nash is a big part of his success.. but who knows.
