I'm coming up on the end of my fourth year in China now with no plans of heading back to Canada any time soon. Shanghai is pretty much home to me. There's no question it's one of the best cities I've ever been to and you should be able to really enjoy your time there. PM me with any questions you've got or what kind of stuff you're interested in and I'll try to fill you in on what's our there for you.

Be wary of locals who want to be your friend. Many are setting you up for a rip off. I someone wants to take you to a tea house - reject. firmly.
yes this is also true, unless you're in one area for a long time, otherwise be wary of locals, however, asking for help in china isn't too crazy either, but if people randomly offer you help, i'd be wary.
we got lost biking in beijing, and we asked a lady for directions and she just told us to follow her on her bike. when we needed a good restaurant, people on the street usually pointed us in a decent direction...
my personal experience with the food was good, but crazy things can happen in china too
Hey guys. I was at the Chinese Consulate website and it said:

Please note that the Chinese Embassy or Consulate-General does not issue individual visa for tourists to Tibet. All applicants travelling to Tibet need to contact your local travel agency to obtain confirmation for group visa of no less then 5 people from the Tourist Bureau of Tibet at .....
Does that mean as a solo traveler I can't get into Tibet? If you have gone, did you have to do anything special?
