The way to do it through Alberta Health care is to get your doctor to call around clinics and add you to the waiting list. A good doctor will do that and it can cut your waiting time in half.

to go to the clinics you still need a doctor's referral to get in.

Hate to bump an old thread: has anyone done this recently? Do you need a doctors script if you are going to pay privately? Are the costs still $7-800? I'm wanting to find out why my ankle isn't healing after spraining (?) it 3 months ago...

Have you seen a doctor at all about it? My last ankle injury took well over a year for pain to totally be gone, and I hadn't done any real damage. Ankles suck.

My daughter had a high ankle sprain 3 years ago and it still bothers her. Physio said it will probably bother her to some extent permanently.

I had xrays done and there is no sign of obvious break. The reason I want it dealt with ASAP is that I want to apply to be on the National team that will be going to the Commonwealth Lifesaving Championships in Durban in August. But half the events that I swim use some pretty heavy duty fins (see: http://www.leaderfins.com/us/rocket-...ith-socks.html )
and right now (3 months after the injury) I can't use them. I'm still getting huge pain just from walking on the deck for my shifts.

Assuming you are in Alberta, Physiotherapists & Chiropractors can order MRIs too. I think the Chiropractors are limited to spine only though.

Can confirm.

Had one done two months ago on my knee for $700 at Mayfair.

Was it worth it? Was the problem diagnosed and fixed faster? Or did you get a answer: Soft tissue damage, deal with it.

Got the answer I needed to move forward with rehab. Was substantially faster than waiting and going through ab health. I was in the same week I got the requisition. And the place was actually quite enjoyable. Coffee pastries quiet and private waiting room. If you can afford it I'd definitely recommend it.

Before it I was wasting time and money doing physio and chiropractic things that only dealt with the outside of the knee when my primary issue turned out to be a torn meniscus.
